Newsround Irresponsible talking about war to kids

Is it just me or does anyone else think it is totally irresponsible that Newsround was talking about an impending war with North Korea showing dramatic images that I feel would create worry in a child. My son said mum America and North Korea are going to have a war. Is it really necessary to show this to young children in the morning?

I can't remember if it was the westminster or paris terrorist attack they covered and there were a few discussions at school about it. One child hadn't heard a thing about it and so other children filled them in. I would much sooner mine watch it and we discuss it than getting the playground description of whats happened.

somewhat i haven't seen them cover any sexual abuse stories, id agree with that one being too far as its just too adult. But i think they are good at censoring which news stories to cover and which not. I also love their "heres a baby rhino" type stories.

Former journo, so probably biased, but watching the news or listening to it on the radio is vital. I grew up listening to BBC World Service, we used to have to sit in silence once the pips started. Better to understand what is really happening and not sugar coat things too much otherwise real life will come as a shock to your DC and they could lack empathy - rather the news than a reality TV show that espouses bad values and encourages a ludicrous obsession with celebrity culture.
