To return these worn jeans?

Bought a pair of jeans from Debenhams over the weekend. Didn't try them on in the shop as had kids with me. Tried them on at home and they appeared to fit fine, so wore them for the day. Cue a bloody nightmare of spending the day hoiking them up. No belt loops (more of a jegging I suppose, that'll teach me).

AIBU to return them even though I've worn them? Will they even let me?!

YABU jeans always "relax" a bit when you've worn them in. Just wear a belt with them.

AngryGinger · 02/05/2017 07:42

Well shops aren't required to offer refunds, and when they do it's usually for faulty goods or goods that people have changed their mind about but can be sold on. Neither of which applies to you, I think you'd be better off sticking them on eBay or similar.

af2000 · 02/05/2017 07:46

19 no belt loops otherwise I would.

They have done that thing of fitting well at first but have relaxed so much they are unwearable and I have no means of holding them up.. braces perhaps?!

Arguably they are faulty..?

I would, tell them they fitted perfect but have loosened beyond being wearable.. it's a fault surely, none of my jeans have ever done that so quickly

C0untDucku1a · 02/05/2017 07:52

I was saddened at going up a Jean size in h&m the other week. By the end of day one i needed a belt. By the end of a week of regular wear they were ridiculous. It is ridiculous!

af2000 · 02/05/2017 08:01

Agreed it's ridiculous! Count ironically I bought a pair from H&M that were slightly too snug enhanced the muffin top thinking they will stretch and be perfect.. still waiting, still have a muffin top Hmm

This is why I bloody hate jeans shopping

I hate this. I have some skinny jeans from M&S that I should have taken back but it's too late now. After a couple of hours they are falling down and a completely different (not skinny so look shite) style despite being barely able to do them up when clean out of the wash.

A few years ago I had some from Next that were the same and I did take them back and I went into the shop expecting an argument but they refunded them without quibbling. I simply explained that I wasn't happy how much they grew when they were worn and they gave me a refund. So definitely worth a try.

AnathemaPulsifer · 02/05/2017 08:03

I've taken back on this basis with no difficulty whatsoever.

BigGreenOlives · 02/05/2017 08:03

This, sadly, is the difference between cheap & expensive jeans.

ParadiseCity · 02/05/2017 08:04

Take them back the material has let you down.

I have jean regret - bought the perfect pair a month ago and now realise they are shit. Don't suit me at all or go with any of my shoes. I should have known better as they were from per una Blush

af2000 · 02/05/2017 08:07

Paradise that is karma in action right there for even setting foot in Per Una. That said I am now wondering whether M&S would have been my better option.. maybe their classics old lady section where everything has an elastic aged waistband

BigGeeenOlives I fear you are right. Any recommendations?

OP The sale of goods act states that Good bought have to be of satisfactory quality. If it is that they have just bagged ridiculously then yanbu in taking them back. If it is that they don't fit properly (ie they are too short and are dragging) then yabu to take them back.

MsMims · 02/05/2017 08:24

Return them and if you have any dispute from the shop remind them of the sales of goods act as increasingly has said.

I've taken jeans back to Next for this reason and they didn't quibble.

soloula · 02/05/2017 08:33

I've returned jeans to next for becoming too baggy after a few wears. Refunded with no issues.

af2000 · 02/05/2017 08:36

I'm not sure if you can make it out, this is a picture of the waistband from above and you can see it's gone all wobbly (what's the word I'm looking for?!!).. it looks like the elastic on some really old pairs of pants I own.

Will return and argue their faultiness

It's Consumer Rights Act (since October 2015) if you're going to quote laws do get the name right. Smile Most shops do go over and above their legal duty anyway so you shouldn't have to be quoting anyway.

InfiniteSheldon · 02/05/2017 08:41

I would and have returned worn jeans that relaxed too much.

MinisWin · 02/05/2017 08:55

I've just done this (twice) with a pair of skinny Levi's - which approximately doubled in size after wearing them for a day - took them back - exchanged for another pair of the same - same thing happened a took them back again and swapped for a different style - so far so good. No quibbles on either occasion. They were for all intents and purposes faulty.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/05/2017 09:18

Oh, I wish I knew skinny Levis grew Minis.

I tried some on that were half price in the John Lewis sale at Christmas and the 12s were too tight to be wearable but the 14s looked like the 'after' photos in a weight loss commercial, but if the 12s had stretched a bit they would have probably been OK, but I thought that because they were more expensive they might not stretch (even half price Levis from JL is more than I normally pay for jeans especially as I'm usually trying to lose a few pounds).

I'll bear it in mind if there is ever a next time - I was astonished to find something decent in my size in the sale, because it's usually a sea of sizes 6, 8, 20 and 24 with no 12s or 14s to be seen.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/05/2017 09:20

I wonder if you can return jeans if you buy them expecting them to stretch and they don't, but most jeans do?

RockyBird · 02/05/2017 09:27

I got new jeans from next a few years back. They were those shaping type and £45.

I tried them on in the shop and was chuffed I had to size down. They were a great fit.

Wore them to the airport the following week for a weekend away abroad.

By the time I got out of the taxi they were slightly loose. By the time I got off the plane they were massive. So big even the back pockets were gaping open.

The worse thing was they were the only jeans I'd brought with me and I had to wear them for part of the weekend.

They were huge by the end of the weekend, luckily I'd brought a belt.

I washed them when I got back and returned them for a full refund.
