To not want a garden full of shit? (Pic included)

Iwannasnack · 30/04/2017 10:16

Everyday for the last couple of weeks we've found shit in the garden. I've got a 1 and 3 year old and it's so frustrating not being able to let them out without scouring the grass for poo. Can anyone identify the animal? I assume cat. Any ideas how to kill stop it coming in?

OP posts:
fannydaggerz · 30/04/2017 10:58

A large breed dog did that poo.

fannydaggerz · 30/04/2017 10:59

Definitely not fox poo. I have a family of foxes that come into my garden and poop and it doesn't look like that.

RachelRagged · 30/04/2017 11:00

daisychain what bullshit .

My cats shit in our garden !!

LittleLionMansMummy · 30/04/2017 11:00

Haha I expected to come to this thread and see a photo of a really messy garden that required tidying. But no, it's literally shit!

As others have said, looks like it belongs to a bigger animal than a cat. But to all those saying that cats prefer to cover theirs in soil, stones, flower beds etc you're wrong. I caught mine doing a dump in the middle of our lawned garden a week ago. Lazy little bugger.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 30/04/2017 11:07

In my experience, that is dog poo.

PigletJohn · 30/04/2017 11:08

the fox muck I see is black and runny. I suppose it varies by diet, but that looks like dog to me. Fox muck may also have traces of bones, feathers, beetle shells etc

Foxes like to poo in conspicuous places (on top of tree stumps, in the middle of a path) for territorial marking. The smell is very distinctive. They avoid large carnivorous mature male animals, so if you can get a man to wee round the garden after a big steak, they will be deterred.

happypoobum · 30/04/2017 11:10

I agree with fanny as I also have a family of foxes living in one of my sheds, including five lovely little hyperactive cubs Grin Their shit does not look like that at all.

Not cat shit either - way too big.

That is definitely dog shit.

PovertyPain · 30/04/2017 11:24

The bastard car that shits in my garden certainly doesn't bury it!

You're going to need a very big poo bag to lift that! 😉😁

Elendon · 30/04/2017 11:26

I'm currently making a poo hideaway for my cat in our new house. He doesn't poo in other people's garden and has been meticulous in using the cat tray whilst rehoming him. I shall use the dregs of the cat litter tray to spray on the new outdoor lavatory for him.

Hopefully, once he is out he will scare off the other cats and enjoy his territory. He's a big fella, but he's also quite a shy cat and hates confrontation.

I'm going to say either a big cat with constipation issues or a dog. Not a fox.

Rufus27 · 30/04/2017 11:31

We have a large cat (nearly 8kg) and his poos still aren't that big/wide. I'd guess it's a fox or dog.

Spudlet · 30/04/2017 11:32

Dog. How disgusting of someone to let their dog do that! I'd be so tempted to bag it up and deliver it back to the owners (don't know if I would but I'd really want to!).

Bluntness100 · 30/04/2017 11:35

I really don't think it's fox, we have foxes poop on our patio and their poo is slimey and runny, less formed. I'd bet good money it was dog poop.

HappyFlappy · 30/04/2017 11:41

Looks like dog poo to me. Could be fox (depending on size - foxes don't do very big poos) and shape (fox poo is usually sort of twisted at one end, but the photo doesn't show the detail). There's also usually seeds and identifiable "parts" in fox poo as well (e.g. bits of fur).

If you break it open it will, of course, smell, but fox poo is RANK!

I think someone's dog is getting onto your garden.

AlistairSim · 30/04/2017 11:42

My darling dog rolled in fox poo yesterday and it didn't look like that.

sadsquid · 30/04/2017 11:43

IME fox shit is runnier. It does look pretty mighty for a cat turd. But there definitely are cats who'll shit in the middle of a lawn without burying it, we had one coming in our old garden and I saw the little bugger doing it. The cats we had growing up always buried it in our garden, but my mum was mortified one day to see one nipping over the fence and laying a fat one in the middle of our neighbour's lawn - knowing that cat we're pretty sure it was a one off but even so.

SquatBetty · 30/04/2017 11:46

One of our cats shits in our garden without burying it quite often! So it's bollocks to say cats always bury theirs.

However I'd agree with the poster that said cats normally only do one 'log' at a time. The poo in the photo looks more like dog poo to me.

MrsGotobed · 30/04/2017 11:47

I clicked on this thread expecting to see a photo of a garden full of shit like old shopping trolleys, plastic slides, broken barbecues, knackered garden furniture and so on Grin.

But seeing as I'm her, I would say dog. We have foxes and their shit seems almost black and less formed (but I think they are cubs)

Iwannasnack · 30/04/2017 11:54

Thanks for all the replies. Update picture with size guide as requested! Grin
I'm thinking dog too now. It smells but of poo rather than weed or musky. My most popular thread on mumsnet and it's about poo!

Human?

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 30/04/2017 11:58

Another vote for dog poo. My experience of fox poo is that it was like the most digusting smelling (like nothing else) putty textured sludge. Nice.

Cats bury their shit
Many don't. There was a recent thread on this and I've personaly watched a neighbour's cat curl one out on my lawn and walk off leaving it uncovered.

emilybrontescorset · 30/04/2017 11:59

She- you have a car that shits!!!!
That could come in handy!

happypoobum · 30/04/2017 12:00

I dunno though - I think it's shaped like a giraffe so I am going to say giraffe poo.

Or human Grin

SuperFlyHigh · 30/04/2017 12:05

Am also getting pissed off of people blaming cats... though I'm sure mine shits in other people's gardens to "mark".

Wormulonian · 30/04/2017 12:07

Not fox poo unless it is a constipated fox - usually softer and it hums to heaven - very distinctive. Looks like dog.

Used to live next door to a cat lady (28!) and they all pooed in the neighbouring gardens not their own - and they did not bury it! It was usually a little bit smaller than your picture and a bit stickier looking but it could be a large cat who is overfed/ fed a bad diet.

emilybrontescorset · 30/04/2017 12:08

It could be lion poo and that is supposed to deter cats so maybe you should make use of it.
