when I tell my work I'm pregnant Aibu to be evasive 're maternity? obvs I'll share plans with my boss but I've heard staff ask pregnant staff how long they're taking for mat leave and if they're going to apply for part time on return. To me it's none of their business so I won't be discussing it with them!

Cross post with the bit about your boss not being supportive. I would keep a record of anything maternity related that your boss says if you are worried.

I would say it depends on the colleagues and your relationship with them - it is none of their business unless you choose to make it so. I've seen friendly interest in women in this situation but also people trying to take advantage of the situation.

'I haven't decided yet' followed by a change of subject should suffice.

Nobody really cares, they're just making conversation

Just say you're not sure yet.

Not sure why you're taking it so personally

HeyCat · 30/04/2017 10:24

Of course it's your colleagues business. Even if they are not the ones finding cover, any change in workplace and staffing will affect them.

Sounds like you don't like them, but they're just making conversation.

Just say you haven't decided then, that's not being evasive it's a very common response.

YABU- unless there's a massive back story I can't imagine they are doing anything other than passing the time of day with you.

You are coming across as very defensive.

Oldraver · 30/04/2017 10:51

'I haven't decided yet' is all you need to tell colleagues if you think they are being nosey or snide

HunterHearstHelmsley · 30/04/2017 11:08

People only ask for something to talk about; they don't actually care.

I've asked people in the past and can't even remember what they said as it's not important to me. Like when you ask how someone is

PerfectPeachy · 30/04/2017 12:45

I haven't decided yet.

Not sure, I'll see how it goes

Piss off you nosy bugger, its private and non of your business

Two of these answers are ok.

Trifleorbust · 30/04/2017 13:11

I get you, OP. It depends who is asking and why. Your manager should leave you to it for a while yet and ask when matters become more pressing.

Some threads here are ridiculous. Looking for things to be offended about.
