To ask at what age should a child wipe their own number?

Just wondering after a chat with someone else - at what age should a child be able to wipe their own bum post poo?

And would you check their bum or just leave them to it and cope with the odd skid?

My son is 4 and he wipes his own bum, it does take about half a bog roll though 😕

Can't remember how old ds was but it was sometime after starting school, maybe earlier P2/Yr1. He could do an ok job, but used 1/2 loo role and several moist toilet tissues as he always wanted to be squeaky clean, so sometimes it was just easier to check him after he'd done a couple a wipes himself.

Luckily he was very regular, he's in secondary now and has never poo'ed at school

Dd managed from about age 3.5 by herself. Ds was still calling on me beyond age 4...but it was a yell of:
"Mum, I've done a messy poo!"
Occasional skid marks until age 6 or so.

My nephew went until about age 6 needing help. Everyone's different.
