To ask about dental implants?

Has anyone had implants and can you tell me if the process was difficult or not? How long did each visit take? I have a very good prosthodontist at the moment and I am considering asking her about doing implants. I have several teeth missing, have just had to root canals in two days and lots more to be done including another possible Extraction.

Were you able to eat meat and other hard foods with your implants? Please tell me the good the bad and the ugly. I have been researching as much as I can, but would like to know from people who have already had implants.

My best mate has their own dental lab and does them.

They tend to last 10-25 years in their appearance.

I am having one done now for mates rates, but I may need a bone graft😩

I've got 2 - my front teeth. And I want to echo what most PPs have said. I was so very extremely nervous that my dentist prescribed me some valium. Not sure if it worked or not, but I did get through it and it was painless.

I've got the screw in ones (I can't unscrew them, but the dentist could if they needed replacing).

I don't set off the machines in airports (I was worried about that with all the metal in my mouth)

The procedures were do-able.

A side effect might be that your gums recede, and then it shows all the dental work. I think that is very rare, but you're a bit fucked if it happens to you (my dentist very unhelpfully showed me pictures of people this had happened to... it wasn't nice. Hence the valium!)

My only downside (and it's because it's my two front teeth) my dentist designed my implants so there's a very natural-looking gap between my two front teeth. It's very small and narrow. But I spit when I speak and drool when I laugh, which I've never done before. I HATE it!!!!

Has anyone had the all on 4 dental implant, and, if so, what are your thoughts? Thanks, any advice welcome as it is a big steps & lots of £s!

I didn't have enough bone to support my implants, so I had to have extra appointments to have cadaver bone put in my jaw. It was like a powder mixed with a liquid antibiotic. They put is in my jaw, and it grew with my existing bone.

I had twilight anesthesia with my implants. All I remember is the assistant asking me periodically to take a deep breath.

I'm just at the end of the process - another 3 weeks before the permanent tooth is fitted - and it's been surprisingly OK.

Mine was a failing front crown. The dentist removed it (no pain but a bit of tugging!) and performed a 'tooth now' which gave me a proper-looking temporary cover. I also had a bone graft (no pain at all, it's just a powder packed into the gaps) and 2 gum grafts - the first one didn't take so that's why I'm about 4 weeks behind schedule. The gum graft left a mouthful of stitches, but no real pain, and they were out within 10 days.

The hardest part of this was the decision to go ahead: I was worried that I would be left with a gap for months. Once I had the second consultation, I was happy that the 'tooth now' could be done, I jumped straight in.

Just to add, my gum grafts have reduced the receding gum line to my 2 front teeth, so aesthetically it looks much better already.

I don;t know what every one else was charged, mine was £3500 in all for the 1 tooth, 1 bone graft and 1 gum graft (the second attempt was free). Happy to recommend if anyone wants to PM me, I'm in Kent.

I had to have bone added (powder) to build up density for an implant at the front because there was damage from an abscess. It was expensive but it’s basically like having my tooth back - wonderful. Before that, I had a removable plate which was uncomfortable and not very functional.
