I've messed up my Tesco shop again

I've just received my Tesco shop. I had ordered a few bottles of wine and prosecco (we are having people over). However, I also seem to have ordered two litre bottles of sherry. I have no idea how I managed it - none of us drink sherry. I could see the point if I had had a drink when I did the shop but no, I was stone cold sober. This isn't the first time I've cocked up my shop. One time I ended up with 8 bags of apples instead of 8 apples, 7 bags of bananas. I also somehow ended up with 9 packets of Kitkats. AIBU in thinking I should just give this up as a bad joke? What what can I do with two litre bottles of sherry? All suggestions welcomed.

I'm awaiting my first Tesco online delivery tonight. (Prosecco too coincidentally, they have an offer on!) A bit concerned now as to what might be delivered. There was definitely no sherry on my order! Watch this space....

bumblebee50 · 27/04/2017 19:01

I definitely don't remember ordering the sherry - I searched for prosecco and pignot grigo so not sure how sherry came up - I didn't search for wine. I have definitely paid for them. I would have given them back to the driver for a refund but I wasn't here when the shop was delivered (deliberate ploy, my son had to put the shopping away!). He seemed a bit amused that i had bought sherry. Maybe I will have a Spanish evening - sherry seems to be popular in the new tapas restaurant that has opened in our town.

12 tubs of Blueberry Carte D'or ice cream. Shared with all the neighbours!

Dairymilkmuncher · 27/04/2017 19:13

Heaps of recipes online!! I've never used it because don't want a whole bottle of the stuff kicking around Wink but think some oriental recipes call for sherry.

Yanbu to give up online shopping it can be a total waste of time and money when you get it wrong, also cinema tickets! The amount of times I've booked the wrong seats (once date as well) I've given that up to.

Weedsnseeds1 · 27/04/2017 20:01

Is it dry sherry? If it's fino chill it and serve over ice as you would wine.
Fino, Manzanilla, oloroso - use one bottle as a substitute for rice wine in Chinese dishes. Stuff chillies in the other to make Caribbean "pepper wine", which you then use on Caribbean dishes ( obviously) or chuck a splash in soups and stews, a bit like you would use Worcestershire sauce.

If you know someone who likes sherry, it might do as a birthday or Christmas present?

LittleGreyBear · 27/04/2017 20:12

If you call customer services to let them know, you can get a refund and just hand it to the delivery man when he brings your next delivery.
I've done this before.

Rhayader · 27/04/2017 20:27

You are aware that you can just tell the driver of your mistake and they will return and refund?

CPtart · 27/04/2017 21:13

9 bottles of Prosecco just delivered as requested. No sherry. DS1 has asked if I'm an alcoholic Grin

GreatFuckability · 27/04/2017 21:18

i once meant to order 1 bunch of small bananas. what i actually ordered was one mini banana the size of my thumb. I did in fact think it was a thumb in a bag for a minute when i found it!

burninglikefire · 27/04/2017 21:29

My star moment was doing an online Sainsbury's shop as a treat for my son at uni in the midlands and putting his street address but my postcode. Cue a phone call from a very driver who was in Surrey with a Birmingham address Confused.

This has just reminded me of my old secretary. She was ordering blinds for her house. She insisted she could measure them herself and order online as it was miles cheaper. Her husband was cynical. But it was really really cheap.

Like, suspiciously cheap.

But she bit my head off when I suggested this.

Anyway, delivery day comes. The driver arrives and she asks him if he needs a hand bringing them in. He gives her an odd look and hands her a small flat box.

Yeah...... she'd ordered in millimetres. Tiny weeny little blinds that the company had thought must be for a dolls house......

She secretly reordered and her husband never did find out!!

Mysteriouscurle · 27/04/2017 21:50

Grin at the teeny blinds. Ive had a few online disasters too, remembering one particularly huge chunk of fresh ginger as I was rubbish at estimating weights

Scottishchick39 · 27/04/2017 22:10

Oh yes, I've ordered a massive bag of ginger before. I've also had 200 fags delivered which I'd used to hold my slot but then forgotten about it. The delivery driver was most amused with that 😂

superram · 27/04/2017 22:20

I am sure Tesco pops up with over ordering now-for example you have ordered 200 bananas-did you mean to?

HopelesslydevotedtoGu · 27/04/2017 22:27

justkeepswimmingg I often have the same - I definitely add items to my basket and check them out, but come delivery day they aren't there and aren't on my receipt. Very frustrating.

maybeshesawomble · 27/04/2017 22:29

School (or other org) tombola/raffle?

keeplooking · 27/04/2017 22:35

What what can I do with two litre bottles of sherry?

Send both bottles over to meeee! I'm completely out of sherry. The only real cock-up I've had with online shopping was the time I thought I was ordering 1 bunch of bananas, but actually ordered 1 banana. You'd think they'd have realised what I meant!

Salumeria · 27/04/2017 22:43

I once ordered 20kg of apples Blush.

And another time so many tubs of ice cream I couldn't fit them all in the freezer. Not sure how that happened.

I don't shop online any more.

FoxyRoxy · 27/04/2017 23:00

There's always stuff missing from my orders that I know I put in my basket. I think tesco are trying to make me think I'm going mad Confused check back your emails op, if sherry doesn't feature on your order confirmation then call them and they should refund. In any case you could return them to tesco if they're unopened? Or, make 200 trifles...

AtleastitsnotMonday · 27/04/2017 23:16

I somehow ended up with 20 rolls of tin foil when I thought I'd ordered 2. God knows what the picker thought I wanted with 20 rolls of foil.

UppityHumpty · 28/04/2017 01:31

I mix it with lemon juice or vinegar to make salad dressing.

daisychicken · 28/04/2017 07:12

HopelesslydevotedtoGu justkeepswimmingg* " I often have the same - I definitely add items to my basket and check them out, but come delivery day they aren't there and aren't on my receipt. Very frustrating"

Me three and it drives me insane.. I know I ordered x and saw it in the basket but it's not there on delivery day nor on my receipt or on the email but I never remember to really scrutinise the email after each order just assume it's as I ordered. What's worse is it doesn't happen everytime so makes me feel I'm going mad!! Confused
