AIBU?

To ask if you really say fuck off to people?

I often read threads where people have had some stranger interfering, commenting on posters behaviours, actions etc. (You know the type of thread, strangers commenting on your shopping trolley, looks, weight, baby etc. etc.) And plenty of posters add to thread "just tell them to fuck off!" "Tell them to do one!" etc.

But do you actually say this in rl? What happens? Or is it what you were thinking but didn't actually do? I hardly ever confront, partly to keep my dignity, partly because I'd probably go overboard once started!
Blush

But I know some people say people should be more assertive.

bran I don't believe you've never heard anyone being told to fuck off in Dublin! When I was at university there 15 years ago you couldn't get on the bus without hearing about five different variants of it...
I think I've said it to the odd street harasser but only while walking on, not waiting for a reaction.

I told two men "go fuck yourselves" after they crashed into me and then refused to exchange and were ganging up on me. Then I drove off.

(I should have probably called the police then and there but my shook up brain didn't go there and 101 didn't give a shit when I got home)

Once to a stranger - drunk man in pub kept telling me a 'looked like a bloke'. Yeah, he got told to fuck off.

Oh dear! Now I see myself as the person hiding behind my assertive mumsnet sisters, trying to look hard by association. Grin

In my part of central Scotland you hear (and use) it all the time. Not necessarily in a bad way, but 'fuck off!' can replace 'really!?' In a conversation.

'I' looked like a bloke... (I don't lol)

I used to when I was younger, especially persistent men. But times have changed since then and I worry more about being assaulted, so probably wouldn't these days. Plus, I no longer have to worry about persistent young men. Grin

Another good Scottish variation of the phrase is "away and take a fuck to you yourself". It has to be all one word though "achawayantikafucktaeyersel".

No way, I'd never dare.

But then, to be honest, although I swear a lot, I would never swear at someone. So I say 'Oh, for fuck's sake' or 'oh fuck' etc all the time but would never say 'fuck off'. I think of the first type of swearing as more descriptive/expressive but the latter as aggressive and nasty. Not quite sure why I make such a huge distinction.

I say it a lot - Dublin here too. The one time I really meant it was when HR had offered a guy who had fewer qualifications, half as much experience than me and lower down the food chain than me...30k more than me. When I found out they offered me a token 6k. I told them to fuck off (very clearly and slowly) and walked out of the room.

Usually I'm so stunned I don't say anything, but I have done when very angry.

Last time was about six months ago when someone rushed past me at the top of an escalator, nearly knocked us both flying and then blamed me for getting in her way. I was very shocked as I guess she was after I yelled: 'fuck off, you stupid fucking cow. You could have fucking killed us!'

I ended up following her down the platform - not deliberately, it's just where I always stand. But she obviously thought I was a dangerous nut and wouldn't look at me. She then sat in my favourite part of the carriage. I decided to defuse the situation and chose to stand at the other end. I threw her a few moody glances though, just to learn her to take more care on the underground Grin

I live in Glasgow, I regularly tell people to 'Get tae fuck' and 'Fuck you an all pal!'
But then I spent my teenage years in Woolwich and again, I live in Glasgow where 'Aye ye fucking cunt' is a term of endearment.

I have, but I tend to do with with a huge smile on my face and in a slightly sing song voice which means that the person I'm telling to fuck off tends to take a few minutes to work out what I've said to them, by which time I've walked off and am roaring laughing. or shaking in fear if was a snarly man

If someone harasses me in the street, a 'fuck off' is the least they can hope for, though I do occasionally favour a head tilt and politely asking 'Excuse me, did you mean to be such a cunt?' I'm nice really, I just have no patience with anyone who thinks it acceptable to shout at people in the street.

Yes, I have told people to fuck off.
I was walking home one day and a guy kept pulling his car up along side me, letting me pass and get a little way ahead then doing it again. He never said a word, just stared at me as I walked by. After he did it the fifth time I went mad and screamed at him. There were a few fucks in there.
I have big boobs. Men sometimes feel the need to remark on them. They get the bored "fuck off".
I rounded a corner and saw a man holding a woman up against the wall by her throat. Went a bit nuts that day too. There were quite a few fucks and fucking.
When I got my first prescription for AD they affected me by making me angry. Parking situation arose, man thought he was in the right, I thought I was. He got told too. (Right after that one I went back to the doctor to get my meds changed)

Yes, especially when in my 20s with constant sexual harassment.

I say fuck, fucking and cunt all the time. So does my husband and most of my friends. Even my sainted mother did. Rarely at people though. I have to be very angry for that.

But sometimes only cunt will do as a descriptor, and I don't mean in affection.

I must go into town more, and pay attention to what's going around me. Grin I've barely left Dublin 18 for years, and I'm always at home, tucked up in bed, at pub and club closing time. I'll let you know if I hear it. Wink

In my head I tell people to fuck off all the time. I'm quite argumentative :)

In real life? Noooooooo, I would mumble an apology and meekly look at the floor, like every good Brit does, regardless of it being my fault Grin

I have, regularly, while working in some quite rough pubs, but as every other word in the pubs was a swear word it just didn't seem that bigger deal (I actually used to shut the bar with 'right guys, that's time, drink up and fuck off' some nights) I've also said it to a group of builders coz i'd been walking past them every day for about a week and they kept asking me to get my tits out, I wouldn't say it in a lot of the situations I've seen it suggested for on here though.

Same as limited. I swear a fair bit, but only in context when describing or relating things. Never at someone.

My neighbour did tell me to fuck off once when I went to complain for the 1st time (far more politely that I should have done in hindsight) about the thundering noise he was making at 4 am for the 20th time. I completely blank him now and I haven't spoken to him since Angry.
