to be fed up with the amount of pink!

I am a mum to a dd and a ds. I just wanted to know why some people now who have dd have to have everything in bright pink as if to say look at me I've got a girl. Am I the only one who feels the pink explotion in shops is a bit sexist towards boys? Anything you can buy also comes in pink. There also seems to be more girls clothes/toys in the shops than boys. Sorry if this offends some but I would like to know why people want everything to be pink?

BabyDragon's carseat is pink.

But only because it was bright red when we got it 8 years ago for DS1... Take off the removable padded bits and it's quite startling!

Lucycat · 12/03/2007 13:21

Certainly there is a lot more pink gendered stuff around than even 5 years ago when dd1 was a toddler.

Even cheapo jeans have pink trim / stitching!

as a consequence in our house i do a lights a darks and a pinks wash!

mylittlestar · 12/03/2007 13:21

Not wrong about the car seats honest! I only bought it last week. Most were black/grey. But there was one I particularly liked which had a pink trim and one which had purple on it. Neither came in a blue option!

I promise I'm not making it up!!

As I said though, that was more about me having less options, therefore less choice about the price I paid.

If I had a dd I'd buy EVERYTHING pink! I love it.

It's only a bit frustrating when there's a pink option, but not a blue one.

I keep ds in blue so that people don't think he's a girl too

Why would a carseat have to be girly though? Car interiors aren't are they? Do VW Beetles come with a Chintz option?

malaleche · 12/03/2007 13:22

Never mind pink, I can't get dd, 3.5 yo, to wear trousers in any colour....!

as a mum of 3 girls as well, we also do several pinks loads of washing per week. some days i feel like we have OD on pink.

but really it doesnt bother me about the amount of pink available.

fennel · 12/03/2007 13:24

hi essbee you're back online

SoupDragon · 12/03/2007 13:24

Doesn't bother me when people think BabyDragon is a boy. I did have a chuckle when one man in thethe queue to board a plane recently called her a "little chap" and his wife said "For heaven's sake, she's a GIRL! Look at her shoes!" She was in lilac flowery Inch Blue slippers.

CantSlimWontSlim · 12/03/2007 13:24

Beetles come in pink and with a flower holder!

KathyMCMLXXII · 12/03/2007 13:25

Apropos of Lucycat's 3 washes comment, how long till they start making special washing powder for pinks (with special ultra girly fragrance)? They're missing a trick, I feel.

I just wanted a carseat that wasn't black or blue - very masculine colours. Refused to buy a black or blue pushchair too - so dull - ours is orange and brown and pink stripes (very unisex).

I;ve got 1dd and 1 ds, when i was putting dd washing away i was quite surprised to notice 99% of her clothes were pink and lilac, so i have made a pact with myself not to buy any more pink clothes for a while saying that ds 5yo has quite a few pink tops he likes them calls them his trendy tops

lol hattrick

dd3 got a bright pink top with Girl on it

was it an imps and elfs one?

we also have the 'oh isnt he lovely' in the supermarket

cue outraged bellowing from dd2 'SHE is a GIRL. called BEATRICE. A GIRL!'

KathyMCMLXXII · 12/03/2007 14:27

We had a blue one from Primark with 'girl' on it which I thought was rather cool.

helenhismadwife · 12/03/2007 19:04

there is definately a lot more pink about now than there was when my older dd's were babies.

My girls look cute in pink, they do wear browns, blue and other colours as well.

We have girly car seats, but they are maxi cosi priori xp and they did do very well in the which report which was the main reason we bought them, just a bonus that they were flowery

GRUMPYGIRL · 12/03/2007 19:05

I was trying to find something "non pink" the other day, the only alternative seemed to be lime green.

sniff · 12/03/2007 19:10

I buy a lot of pink after having two boys I was glad of the change!!

But there is much more in the shops to buy for her then there was for the boys especially clothes and shoes

but I dont buy stairgates, buggies, car seats pink they are all neutral but her room is definatly a girlie room!!

Shame for the boys DS2 end up having toys that DS1 once had with me saying I bought this once and gave it away now I am buying just a more modern version all over again

littleducks · 12/03/2007 19:16

I noticed the car seat thing when looking through mothercare catologue, i think its more booster seats than baby ones, think they should be making more cool and trendy options to keep boys happy with new law and all, but there was one ferrarri one so maybe the idea is growing.

margoandjerry · 12/03/2007 20:29

The pink thing drives me mad. I make a point of dressing my girl in all the colours I can find and she only has pink now and again. I really hope we don't have to go through the "permanently dressed as a fairy" phase as it really winds me up.

And I think it's a real shame to see little boys dressed only in drab brown or khaki or navy as if they might be turned gay if they wore something brighter or flowery or even pink. Even babies get forced into the brown and khaki thing - they're babies for heaven's sake.

My sister has two boys and she quite often buys them girls' trousers and tops (without telling them, of course!) just so she has access to colours such as orange or red. Why do they have to look like little tough guys so early? Even babies have to dress like are little blokes popping down the pub.

crystalpony · 12/03/2007 20:37

my dd is four and loves pink. I dress her in all colours but invariably, if she could she would wear pink all the time for everything. She picked a pink carpet for her bedroom and it is a violent explosion of pink and purple in her room, pink carpet, purple walls, purple bed, pink chair etc. But do you know what? It is by far the nicest room in the house! I would have killed for a pink paradise like that when I was four. (I shared a room with my sister who 's ten years older than me and would NEVER have agreed to it).

I think if you shop about a bit it is possible to buy nice colourful clothes for boys..what about vertbaudet or somewhere like that?
