Hi everyone! :)

I recently came across this petition on Change.org that I thought was a fantastic idea - introducing an option to donate online to supermarket food banks when people do their food shopping on the Internet.

Am I being unreasonable to link to it here and to ask you all to please sign and share as much as you can? I really think the petition is a great idea :)

Thanks so much!

That's a lovely letter from the school Ethel - really nicely phrased.

I agree - I feel that if all food banks/charities took a similar approach by thanking their donors for their support and contributions before asking for further help, their requests for donations would be much better received by people who are considering donating to them.

Good idea. I nearly always shop in store as Waitrose is local and I can plan better by going several times a week.

I put some stuff in today - but one thing I learnt from my DD is that the local banks have lists of what they want and what they don't need at the moment. That would be helpful on line too.

I have tended to put in what I thought would be nice - and I read the list and realised that the foodbank would much prefer Long Life milk and breakfast cereal to the things I had chosen - so worth doing. (Google local one)

Signed

I would like to add that we (meaning many people involved) continued to donate and provide time, donations or money to some other local charities

You could try this to help reduce food waste olioex.com/

This is a brilliant idea! Have signed Smile

Trussell Trust food banks will have "urgently needed" and "we're fine for" lists on their individual websites.

So Norwood is fine for pasta and tea bags but needs shower gel and tinned fruit while Clapham would like more pasta and tea please but has all the sugar it needs.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 26/04/2017 21:49

Thanks Gino :)

Great idea! I wish food bank collections were more easily publicised. It would be brilliant if supermarkets could put movable signs next to whatever the food banks need most that week. I.e were fine for pasta but we really need toothpaste, let's put a trussel trust logo by that. So often I see the food bank collection points tucked away after I've paid. If I could see something I knew they needed and I knew the supermarkets were collecting I would donate something every shop!

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 26/04/2017 22:57

Me too Lockhart - I often don't see the food bank collection points until it's too late and I've finished shopping. I think the temporary signs that you've suggested would be a really good idea :)

I just got this message from Tesco after i posted the link for the petition on their fb page,

Hi

I can certainly log your feedback on my internal system for review by the relevant team. Can you Private Message me with the full name, address and email address registered to your grocery account so I can get this recorded?

Kind regards

Will this be just for Trussell Trust food banks?

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 27/04/2017 10:31

Curbside I'm not sure - I've looked at the details on the original petition, and it doesn't make it clear.

CurbsideProphet · 27/04/2017 10:41

Paris I only ask because in some of my work areas I deal with small local food banks who get no support from the big supermarkets, because they are already signed up to support the Trussell Trust.

DJBaggySmalls · 27/04/2017 10:45

My local Asda have a collection bin instore, but this is a good idea so I've signed.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 27/04/2017 11:05

Thanks DJ! :) Curbside that is a good point - I'll try and look into it to find out :)

Ocado don't name the food banks they support. They just say they all are registered charities.

Pariswhenitdrizzles · 28/04/2017 22:04

Hi everyone, thanks so much for signing and sharing so far - I really appreciate it! :)

I'm just going to bump this thread so more people can see it in case they're interested in signing and sharing the petition. Thanks again for all of your support so far!

Hi everyone, just wanted to thank you all so much again for signing and sharing.

I've just come across a thread on here today from a poster who's used a food bank before, and was writing about how grateful they were to use it, so I just wanted to bump this thread if that's okay and see if we can get even more signatures and shares please :) again, thanks so much!
