to think this interview and the follow up is incredibly unprofessional

There's so much I want to say about this interview. But it would be revealing. My colleagues now and were shocked.

Closing date was before Easter hols. Was for a teaching role. Interview was 3 days later - just before break up. Interview went well - and the head phoned up to say that there was still a few things to consider money wise but they were on holiday so he'd get back to me after holidays to let me know more. So it wasn't a yes, it wasn't a no, it was something...

So they're back. I emailed him last week and then rang up on Monday. And still no reply. Not even a courtesy follow up.

There's so much more to this - but they've had 10 days. I don't know what to do. Ring again?

I just think it's basic courtesy when someone follows up like I have done to be honest and just say where they're at. Knowing something is better than not knowing anything.

Like on the trains. I don't mind if the train is delayed but I like to be told if it's delayed and kept in the loop.

Friend sits on an interviewing panel (in ed) . Told me (no details ) that one candidate withdrew at end of interview, the best one later declined and the third wasn't suitable so they are back to square one and feeling a bit desperate. So maybe they have the same dilemma and want to interview more but are still keeping your application in mind.
Very unprofessional not to get back to you, though

GeekLove · 26/04/2017 13:13

I am an engineer of mid-senior position and believe me that doesn't guarantee you actually get anything resembling feedback from a job application. Seems that common courtesy is dead when it comes to jobseeking.
I don't expect feedback if I'm not shortlisted but you'd expect it from an interview (or maybe that was because the job I went for was somewhat MOD-flavoured...)

Orlantina · 26/04/2017 13:23

I've had feedback. I spoke to him when he rang at 9pm!! He liked the lesson, liked the interview - but had to discuss with the directors money and costs.

That was just before Easter - and he wanted to know that he'd not forgotten me.

Teacher here. Over the years, colleagues have told me all kinds of stories about interviews and notification. Best I can tell, especially for independent schools, anything goes. I know of several people who were not the first choice but were eventually offered the job, sometimes weeks after they had been told or had assumed it was no. One colleague, as her mat cover position was ending, went for an interview at a new school. She was interrupted in her interview at the new school by a panicked phone call from the head at her current school to say that he wanted her to stay on after mat. cover!

sausagedogrolls · 26/04/2017 13:32

I've just pulled out of an application process for this very reason. I think the question you have to ask is what will they be like to work for?

My DD has had to apply for a vague but downgraded approximation of her own job (local govt, doing what they do best....) . Jobs only available to internal candidates, but still two online questionnaires/ thingy tests to be done in her own time. A timed inbox task ( that wasn't an inbox task at all , it was policy writing, which was not in the job brief but is something she has done before )and an interview.

Now she has to wait at least three weeks to know if she has a job or faces redundancy.hey ho.

Orlantina · 26/04/2017 13:54

I haven't even mentioned the cats.....

Benedikte2 · 26/04/2017 13:57

The cats?????

highinthesky · 26/04/2017 13:57

OFSTED is done and dusted in 2 days max, unless the school is put into special measures!

Penners99 · 26/04/2017 13:58

The job I have now I interviewed at 10am and had job offer before noon the same day. There were three of us going for the role.

Orlantina · 26/04/2017 14:10

The cats.......Grin

I can't say more.

OP, it does seem very strange, but if that is how they treat an unsuccessful candidate, why would you want to work for them anyway?

not suitably qualified clearly means you're OVERqualified -and they are too cheap to pay you what you're worth- Smile

maggiethemagpie · 26/04/2017 22:05

I'm seeing a lot of this recently as have just gone back on the job market after 3 years. I'm not a teacher but went for a professional role recently and got to second stage. They interviewed me on Thursday it's now nearly a week later and I've not heard a dickie-bird. I'm 99% certain this is because I've not got the job but there's still that 1% flicker of hope. I want to snuff out the flame and move on!

I don't want to chase them as they'll probably ignore me again, and I'll probably be rude and then if I DO have the job it'll be terrible... but I probably don't have it and just wish they'd have the courtesy to let me know for sure. Seems that being ghosted is the new normal in jobhunting now.

pinkstinks · 26/04/2017 22:11

I need to know about the cats Grin

Redblankets · 26/04/2017 22:15

The cats
You have just reminded me of a school (private) I went to look around with my DD.
The HT had 4 😮Persian cats jumping around her office. Never known anything like it.

GiddyGiddyGoat · 26/04/2017 22:18

My ds used to go to a school where there were two dogs roaming in and out of the classrooms... he loved it!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 26/04/2017 22:19

Oh tell us about the cats OP!

GiddyGiddyGoat · 26/04/2017 22:19

Pleeeeease!

frieda909 · 26/04/2017 22:20

I'm dealing with a much less extreme version of this myself at the moment! Was told I'd hear back by the end of Monday, it's now Wednesday night and I've heard nothing. By now I'm sure I haven't got it, but why is it so hard for them to just let people know??

Every job I've ever been successful in getting, I've heard the next day or sometimes even the very same day. 10 days is far too long.

The worst 'rejection' I've ever had was after an incredibly long drawn out hiring process: application form, phone interview, written assignment, interview in person, another phone interview, then another written assignment. After all that (which took place over a period of about six weeks) they told me they still weren't sure they'd found the right candidate so they were going to 'keep looking', but might be back in touch in a month or so (i.e. if they still hadn't found anyone better). So bloody cheeky!

And it was all for a role that only paid £23k Hmm

Orlantina · 26/04/2017 22:21

redblankets has it....

Redblankets · 26/04/2017 22:21

Yes OP fess up re cats !!
I am dying to know now if this is a school in the NW

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 26/04/2017 22:29

I had this too - officially I have never actually been told I didn't get the job (also teaching ; SLT!) so maybe I should just turn up.

It was 4 years ago though so I think I maybe should give up hope.

edwinbear · 26/04/2017 22:33

I win top trumps. I've just returned from a 7th round interview this evening. The first was at the beginning of February 😄.
