To ask what age you let your children watch soaps

Just wondering about kids and TV soaps. Do you let them watch them and what age from?
Some of the topics covered are pretty gritty, e.g. The current Rhona & Pierce storyline in Emmerdale. Soaps are really good at raising awareness and encouraging people to talk about difficult issues, but I sometimes wonder if they should save it for after the watershed.
On the other hand, they offer a way to open up tricky conversations with youngsters.
But 7-8pm is pretty early.
Thoughts?

I've never watched them. I'm not sure the kids even know what they are.

They watch stuff on Netflix, Prime, Now TV, etc.

My 14 year old watches NCIS and things like that, but no soaps.

My kids don't watch a lot of TV. They prefer more targeted stuff on YouTube, Netflix etc

I watch the odd soap but they aren't interested at all.

I don't think my kids have ever heard of them. One of mine is watching Riverdale on Netflix and the other one is watching The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

I use the Common Sense media website to help me decide if the can watch something.

Kids don't watch Tv anymore, so they? Mine don't, at least.
It's all Netflix and YouTube.

I don't let them watch soaps. If I want to watch them in record and watch later

I don't know any kids who watch soaps!

I don't think kids watch soaps any more but I would say age 13

My older 2 are adults and I don't think they've ever watched soaps, we don't watch soaps so my younger 2 have never seen them.

My dd is 13 and will occasionally catch up with corrie.
There have been times when we have met some of the actors, through work not as stalkers or anything.
She likes to think that they are normal families, but she's not normal.
She's been watching it for years, but not the after 9 episodes that seem to take the nasty bits out.
Her favourite is Midsummer Murder.

I'd not permit until 13, if they were on. Argued with parents who thought I was OTT for not wanting to sit 4yo DD in front of shouty violent EastEnders.

DD2 age 12 watches Casualty.
Neither her nor DD1 age 15 have ever watched Eastenders/ Coronation St.etc.
They do watch a lot of stuff on Netflix though.

DS is 11 and has got right into Emmerdale and Corrie but Emmerdale's been quite dark the last few days. He says he's ok with it but I'm thinking we might have to be busy at 7pm for a few weeks.

Never watched them. They look super depressing.

Yes my dd was asking some awkward questions tonight we were all out last night with sick dd2 so missed the actual assault (if it was shown) but it has made me think I might need to record things as she's reached the age now to take a bit more notice rather than just going out to play or being put to bed . She's only 7 and goes to bed between 7.30 and 8 so I'm thinking changes will have to be made

We don't watch any soaps; the TV I never on during normal 'soap' programme time. I don't think they're suitable for children from some of the storylines I see 'highlighted' on the internet.
