AIBU to go to Harry Potter studio Tour alone?

zoobaby · 21/04/2017 19:37

I really want to go to the studio tour. DP is a bit "meh" about the whole franchise. Plus we have a DS (4) and DD (2), obviously too young to know anything about it, requiring attention. AIBU to go alone? Or would I be the sad Neville No-Mates?

I envisage (all excluding my fellow visitees) a leisurely stroll around, time to listen to the audio tour, time to read the signs, time to look at stuff that takes my fancy, time to browse the store in peace, time to try out the butterbeer and whatever else without a thousand tiny little distractions. Or would I hate having to ask strangers to take my photo 100 separate times in 3 hours?

It's probably one of the better attractions to go round alone actually, it's great.

Though, so you know anyone into film in general? My DH took me a few years ago despite not being a Potter fan, never read the books and only seen films once with me, and he loved it because he really enjoyed the special effects and sets and stuff.

I'd much preferred to have gone around it alone! You can take your time and soak it all in properly. Definitely not sad at all. Hope you have a lovely time Smile

BeaLola · 22/04/2017 08:45

Go go go.

We took DS after Christmas as he is the HP fan (9 yrs old ) but myself and DH really enjoyed it too. We took about 5 ish hours but didn't stop for lunch or big drinks stop. I would go again. The only bit I would miss out next time is queuing to get the broomstick thing downloaded .

GlitterGlue · 22/04/2017 08:59

Go! There will be lots of people wandering round separately so you won't look out of place at all.

Iamastonished · 22/04/2017 09:03

I'd recommend the butterbeer

Shock I wouldn't. It is utterly vile. There is a very good reason why there is a large wet waste barrel by the butterbeer stall Grin

Butterbeer is an acquired taste, it was a 50/50 split for us and it surprised us who were the 2 that liked it. People say it's too sweet but I haven't got a sweet tooth at all and I liked it,, middle sister has semi-sweet tooth, and her DH and our oldest sister both have a very sweet tooth, and it was me and BIL who enjoyed it

BlondeBecky1983 · 22/04/2017 09:45

Lots of people were there alone when I went.

Banchan · 22/04/2017 10:02

well, if you're a grown up then yes, that is pretty bloody sad
Yes how dare adults enjoy themselves!

Go it's so good! I went with a few friends but we all kind of wondered apart looking at different pace and there was other people what seemed to be alone, it's awesome, but also recommend a pass on the butterbeer Grin

Not quite the same but we were at the Harry Potter worlds in Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure last summer.

There were lots of people alone - including on the rides. Perhaps they had left their children in cat-in-the-hat land Grin

I think when it's one of these franchises that attracts quite die-hard fans it's quite normal for people to go by themselves!

Have fun, I'd love to do the studio tour too

"Not quite the same but we were at the Harry Potter worlds in Universal Studios/Islands of Adventure last summer."

So were we Grin

DD went on the Gringots ride and the Hogwarts for a second time on her own because I didn't want to go on them (having been made to feel thoroughly sick on the Hogwarts ride). If you are on your own you have a good chance of being able to queue jump because most people want to sit together on rides and there are usually odd seats left over.

"It would be a total wasted opportunity if you're a proper fan and going with kids and/or someone who's not a lover of HP. "

Definitely agree with this ^^

"well, if you're a grown up then yes, that is pretty bloody sad."

Really Strawberrygate Hmm

Stripyhoglets · 22/04/2017 12:00

Yes you all be fine to go on your own and it can easily take longer than 4-5 hours without children grumbling at you!

caoraich · 22/04/2017 14:36

Oh god, iamastonished , are you my mum!?

I went on Gringots ride and the Hogwarts for a second time on my own because mum felt sick on the Hogwarts ride....

(Was there with DP, DB, SiL and my parents but the rest had gone off to queue for Kong!)

Iamastonished · 22/04/2017 16:10

caoraich Grin

We didn't do Kong either. DD hates most thrill rides as she can't stand heights, but she loved Hogwarts and Gringots.

BollardDodger · 22/04/2017 16:28

It would be a waste of money for someone not interested to be dragged round. If you're on your own you can go at your own pace.

zoobaby · 22/04/2017 19:16

Bah humbug strawberry. Besides, children must be accompanied by an adult so its not gonna happen that way, innit? Grin

I often do things by myself if I want to do something but don't have anybody else to go with. Would much rather be by myself than with somebody who doesn't want to be there.
Hope you go and have lots of fun!

megletthesecond · 22/04/2017 19:47

I'd love to do that. We're going in 18 months so I'll have the dc's chattering all the way round.
