AIBU to refuse induction and request c section?

I am now 40+7. Induction booked for Wednesday however its likely in my view that I'll need a csection as the baby is on the right and should be on my left according to the midwife (its my first baby) and she is large - at least 9 pounds they think. I really don't want to go through natural childbirth with a big baby especially after reading how the lack of pain relief is used on other threads (i want an epidural straight away which the midwife agreed with as she said induction is more painful than natural labour)
I just feel like I'm going to go through potentially almost 24 hours of 2 pessaries and a gel and then need a csection anyway.

So i want to know if i can refuse induction if the baby is still on the right (or just refuse it is general) and request today to be booked for a csection. What are my chances?! Thanks all.

Lovely not lively!!!

Hope everything's going well. If you ask for a planned section surely it will be days before you get it though?

I had two excellent labours where I went straight onto the drip. Both I used gas and air and tens and stuff from the birth skills book I'd read. Granted both were relatively short labours (5 hours and 4 hours) but I felt like I could have gone on with no further pain relief.

Hope all goes well for however it turns out. Smile

have sex, walk loads, keep moving, and you know there is every possibility the baby will come anyway! I would have another sweep, check baby is OK and lets hope that he or she just comes of their own accord, quickly!

late babies are very common XXX keep us posted babyfox

Not all inductions are bad. I was induced with my second (a week early so she wasn't necessarily 'ready') and it wasn't so bad. I had the pessary the night before the induction then broke my waters about 10am then she was out by lunchtime. Managed with just gas and air. I wouldn't ask for surgery. The recovery isn't easy x

Hi OP,

with my daughter i was almost 42 weeks and had an induction - she only popped out 3 days later. Totally manageable on an epidural. don't think you can request a c-section, as that would be in case of an emergency and at a doctors advice, presumably because it is a type of surgery.

Dont be afraid that your baby may be big and therefore assume its not possible to have a normal delivery - my daughter was about 9lb. I now have a 7 month old son and he was bon at 40 weeks, at 9lb too - no pain relief as he decided he only needed 3 hours to be fired out! Smile

Good luck!

Love this. They want to induce you as keeping baby in longer is risky. But then keep putting you off, or the induction lasts days! Either there's unacceptable risk to baby and it needs to be born (so CS if induction very slow or delayed). Or there's not.

My womb just gave me a wee sympathy kick.

Good luck op. Sending slippery thoughts.

Dilligaf81 · 29/04/2017 23:07

Don't worry about size. I was told my 1st was 6lb and she was 9lb 12 Oz. She was also and induction on my due date due to spd and from the pessary to birth was 6 hours. Dc 4 was 10lb 1 Oz and easy labour no pain relieve at all. Dc2 was only 7lb 1oz and an awful labour so size isn't really an indication of pain.
I'd have done anything to avoid a c section, i want to be out and about asap after birth.
Good luck.

So in the end i went in for the induction. Had first pessary at 1am, contractions started 6am. I was in agony!! I had various drugs including pethadine and it was all so bad and i felt i wasnt progressing quickly enough so i asked them to just do a c section as clearly i would be more dilated by now if she intended to come the natural way. They refused and refused. In the end i made it to the precious 4cm and was put ib my own room, waters broken and epidural granted HALLELUJAH. felt amazing from this point, then baby's heart rate began randomly dropping and I was still only 4cm so they suggested and i readily agreed to the c section. It was a much more calm lovely experience and we're only having to stay in 1 night! They also said the position and size of the baby was such that she never would have delivered naturally and the c section doctors were surprised my begging for a c section was not at least considered and just offered different drugs instead. Next time if we have another child i would 100% request elective c section, i cannot understand the appeal of a natual birth after all that pain in a room of 4 miserable women in agony (in terms of being induced)! And i have a really high pain threshold. I also would prefer a planned time and date to meet our baby rather than a surprise next time so now I've been through it i can definitely give my own view and would stick to my guns next time. Either way our child is perfect and gorgeous and that's the main thing. Thank you all x

Congratulations GrinFlowers

Well done you!! I completely agree & had same experience with DC1. I opted for an elective c-section with DC2 9 years later. I was happily planning everything around the elective date. I laughed when they asked what I would I would do if I went into labour.. DC1 was born @ 41+5... I was therefore not prepared for my waters breaking like Niagra falls @ 37 weeks Blush

Opt for the c -sectionSmile but don't be a twat like me & think you can pack your hospital bag the day before the planned date Confused. Anyway a little early for that advice Wink

Congratulations again - enjoy your precious little one!

pinyata · 30/04/2017 00:12

If you want a section request one it's your choice ,my only advise would be think of worse case recovery times and pain levels for both and then decide what would be your preference

It's your body and you will know it better than anybody else

Hopefully baby is with you soon

Semaphorically · 30/04/2017 01:50

Congratulations!! Lovely news that your baby is here Smile Flowers

londonrach · 30/04/2017 05:29

Dd was born less than 4 hours after start of induction. So glad i didnt have c section as my pain was manageable and gone when shewas born. Not sure if anyone else found this but my body took over what it needed to do. Very very strange experience. Whilst the ones in my birth group who had c section have numbness and pains months afterwards. You need to talk to the doctors as you dont have to have an induction if you dont want one and nothing wrong with baby. Good luck x

Sorry should have read whole thread. Congratulations xx

CazY777 · 30/04/2017 08:41

Well done and congratulations. Hope you have a good recovery, and remember to take the painkillers regularly. DH and I were so shattered after my 5 day induction (which went no where and I jumped at the chance as soon as they mentioned c-section) we have to write everything down to do that day because we just couldn't remember anything!
I would opt for c-section again if I had another child, but that's unlikely to happen (43 now, too old and knackered!)

Madeyemoodysmum · 30/04/2017 18:37

Ahhh lovely. Well done mummy 💐
