Our bigly armada is...somewhere! Watch out, gentleman! Trump cont..

As the armada appears in waters nowhere near where it was said to be, Trump blusters on in his usual dignified, courtly manner. Easter weekend had us worried about nuclear strikes; DT put a fair bit of work into his golf swing. Business as usual! Carry on, everyone!

I am in several minds over Wikileaks - whistleblowing is very important and must be protected, but also Assange is a slimy twat and probably does stuff for Russia.

cozietoesie · 21/04/2017 14:49

It 'validates' the administration - in their eyes. Wink

Assange is up to his eyeballs in Russia and it is clear to everyone that he is using wikileaks to put out leaked information in a way that best supports to Russian agenda. However, being a russian backed publication is not illegal. If they are planning on prosecuting him simply for publishing leaked information this is a very dangerous road for other newspapers and free speech. If however they have clear evidence of him enabling and abetting illegal hacking (which is more then just publishing information given to him) then they can take the slimy fucker.

For me it is about the case and reason for prosecuting him and whether this would have implications on free speech for other legit publications like NYT, Buzzfeed, Guardian or WaPo who have all published leaked info from various sources in the past.

But you said your invisible Armada was going to force Kim Jong-Ill-Un to make Korea part of China again. Did Pavarotti talk them out of it?

Lweji · 21/04/2017 15:44

I bet he is counting on Kim Jong-nam to help him control his younger brother.

Natsku · 21/04/2017 15:48

Yeah Bigly if he's helped with the badly hacking/interfering with elections then I'm all for them taking the bastard but not for publishing whistleblowing.

Not keen on hackers being imprisoned generally (rather biased in that respect!) but ones that do so in order to fuck up things in the world rather than out of protest or for moral reasons, need to be dealt with.

Lweji · 21/04/2017 15:54

Will no one hack Trump's emails, though?
I'm sure they'd show many, many, many interesting things.

Will no one hack Trump's emails, though. I'm sure they'd show many, many, many interesting things.

Lweji, I'm sure there are a gazillion-and-one hackers world-wide who are trying, and who have been trying to hack every POTUS's email since email began. I know less than nothing about hacking and levels of protection against it but I'd guess that if anyone has state of the art security, it's POTUS (and every other Head of State worldwide).

But what a treasure trove it would be, no?

For me it is about the case and reason for prosecuting and whether this would have for other legit publications like NYT, Buzzfeed, Guardian or WaPo who have all published leaked info from various sources in the past.

This is a concern I mentioned upthread. As it stands, media outlets have published information they could have surmised were classified and had been gotten illegally. I remember this happening back in the '70s with the Pentagon Papers and Watergate leaks (Deep Throat) and I'm sure it happened earlier than that. The media outlets were never 'punished' for publishing illegally obtained information, even if that information was deemed classified, and it was determined that Freedom of the Press protected them as long as they were not responsible for the theft. If this presumption changes, and it's highly likely Trump et al will want that changed to cover their dirty secrets, it will be fought by the Media all the way to the Supreme Court. And unfortunately, we now have a Supreme Court that is highly likely to rule in favour of gagging the Press if it serves the Conservative agenda. And the SCOTUS is for life. We will be suffering from this court's decisions for decades.

BiglyBadgers agree with what you and Across said on Assange and free press.
Free press used to be up there with moral compasses. They have learned from Watergate.

More or less, a radio 4 programme that looks at numbers in the headlines and looks at whether they are used misleadingly or inaccurately, are back and have got an interesting segment about polling. I was in the car with noisy children so couldn't catch all of it but it sounded promising.

With regard to this article could someone from the US explain what this 100 day thing means?

Although the article explains it up to a point, can Trump really shut down the Government if he doesn't get what he wants?

Roussette · 21/04/2017 18:28

You will love this article. Well worth reading... 35 top psychiatrists have got together to talk about DT's personality. Scary and here's a taste...

“I’ve worked with some of the most dangerous people our society produces, directing mental health programmes in prisons. I’ve worked with murderers and rapists. I can recognise dangerousness from a mile away. You don’t have to be an expert on dangerousness or spend fifty years studying it like I have in order to know how dangerous this man is.”

She's also "officially representing the US" on her trip to Germany. How the sweet hell is she an official representative of the US. She is not a fucking princess.

THIS is going to create big problems for them. People are getting very pissed off about her. (including me)
