to expect my washing machine to work on holiday?

Staying in a nice chalet on a holiday park. Paid extra for a chalet with dishwasher and washing machine. Washing machine completely dead so I reported the fault 2 days ago. Nothing happened. Want back to reception yesterday and they said they would send maintenance round. No sign. Expected to come back from day out yesterday for it to be fixed. Today I went back to reception and asked for launderette tokens. These were provided. Have spent last 2 hours lugging washing bags up steep hill, sat in launderette waiting for a machine, wash is 34 mins so not worth going back to chalet, then using dryers as washing too heavy to carry back. 2 hours of holiday lost on a beautiful day, we had planned to go out but now hanging around doing washing. It was piling up (family of 4) so had no choice. Surely the appliances should be checked at changeover. AIBU to expect a working washing machine in accommodationif paying more than for a chalet with no washing machine?

I'm with Wolfie. OP reported a fault on Easter Day. By lunchtime on Tues, a brand new washing machine had been delivered. I think that's a good service

Exactly haggis, I don't take food to a restaurant as I expect to buy food, I wouldn't take a bike on holiday if I've paid to rent one. The op didn't take load of clothes as she/he has rented somewhere with a washing machine.
Wolfie flooding/broken/ blah blah...they should've fixed it asap. Regardless of what bloody day it was! The op is paying additional for a service that they haven't had.

I totally agree with the other posters and agree that YABU op. You reported it on Sunday and by Tuesday lunchtime you had a brand new washing machine. It was completely you're choice to stay in all morning washing clothes, I'd have been out enjoying the beach with my family. Who cares if the kids spill a bit of ice cream on their tops? It's only going to get more dirty.

Well the brand new washing machine has now deposited oil and grease all over a load of washing as a result of not being plumbed in properly. Had to chuck the entire load. I showed the clothes to the manager and he has taken £280 off our holiday Bill. I didn't ask for this but there you go! Had a lovely afternoon on the beach after putting the third load on (a couple of tea towels, a stained towel, a damp jacket that had been stuffed in the car and a couple of other bits). Came back to ruined clothes. Was advised not to use it again but had big chunk taken off the bill. I was not pushy in any way.

Oh no. After the wait wrecked clothes too? I'm sorry OP. I hope you have managed to enjoy some of the holiday. How bloody stressful. Shock

People do laundry on holiday? Shock

BusterGonad · 18/04/2017 19:27

I'm sorry to hear that Op, that would be my worst nightmare as my clothes are my pride and joy and my son gets attached to his favorite things too!

Oh that's bad karma. Maybe the engineer saw you complaining on here that the machine hadn't been fixed IMMEDIATELY you reported it.

Joking apart, that's a bummer about the clothes being ruined. What a nuisance. Hope the rest of your holiday goes more smoothly
