Food for three people and a dog. Petrol, gas and electric. Summer coming so hardly any gas usage. Car only used for short local-ish trips. Need to do it till November.

If you are careful it can be done. 2 years ago I had about £100 a week for 2 adults 1 teen 2 younger children and 2 cats we did it. This was for gas elec food and fuel. We are in card meters so it was easy to keep track of gas and electricity. Food shop at aldi lidl we have home bargains and b&m locally which are good. On a bad week I could do a food shop for 5 on £30 which included packed lunches for all except youngest who was in reception so hot free school meals

My dog has been eating this salmon dog food from Harrington's following a mumsnet recommendation and seems pretty good on it - subscribe and save on Amazon can be good if you research carefully to make sure it's a good deal and if you use it:

Far easier if you are veggie.. We have made a huge roast dinner for six tonight based around a lentil and nut roast for just over £1 a head and I'm not even on a tight budget. Pudding was donated rhubarb and custard, so just another 48p for the milk as I have custard powder in the cupboard.

the dog needs more than kibble to be honest.
you may not want to rehome him but you need to feed him a reasonable quality wet food and if you can't afford that you shouldn't really be owning a dog.

MsGameandWatch · 16/04/2017 19:43

Strange you should say that seeing as this food was both breeder and vet recommended. Why people feel the need to be so shockingly rude and sneery on here I will never know. This thread was not about what I feed my dog so I only mentioned it briefly. He has James Wellbeloved dry and wet food mix, he does well on it and I won't be changing it any time soon.

didn't want to sound sneery probably just own a spoilt cat as he gets wet food biscuits and meat chucked in and it costs me a bloody fortune!

user1490465531 · 16/04/2017 19:48

when you said kibble just pictured some cheapy pound land stuff!

CaulkheadNorth · 16/04/2017 19:49

Do you have a junk food project nearby? It's worth visiting if so and seeing if they have freegan boxes.

user1490817136 · 16/04/2017 19:55

We manage on similar OP. Our shopping is £60 weekly (four person household) , our electricity/gas is about 14pw. We don't run a car though , I'd say we spend about £20pw on public transport. It's not too bad if you shop smart and stick to a menu for dinners and lunches (cereals for breakfast).

PaperdollCartoon · 16/04/2017 19:55

Look into doing market research stuff - my friend is on a low income with small children and making at least an extra £100 a month going to market research things.
Definitely stick to a veggie diet - beans and lentils will go much further than meat.
Track everything you spend, if you have a phone that takes apps Daily Budget is a great one (yellow icon)

Very nasty telling Op to get rid of the dog. Some people haven't got a clue. A dog is more than just an eating machine jeezConfused

TheFlyingFauxPas · 16/04/2017 19:58

Our ddog lives on kibble. Isn't that just complete dried food? He's perfectly happy and healthy on it. Wet food's not so good for teeth.

TheFlyingFauxPas · 16/04/2017 19:59

Ps totally do able op xx

user1489226029 · 16/04/2017 20:01

need to feed him a reasonable quality wet food and if you can't afford that you shouldn't really be owning a dog.

What a load of rubbish!!!!

RachelRagged · 16/04/2017 20:06

All you going on about a dog is a luxury , rehome the dog . .Hard hearted cunts . Should only those on high salaries own a dog then ?!

No wonder shelters are full !!!!

SoloDance · 16/04/2017 20:06

I can't keep up with which userno is on the dogs sideGrin

user1489226029 · 16/04/2017 20:08

Ha ha ha ending 6029 dogs side!!!! I need to learn how to highlight text.

SoloDance · 16/04/2017 20:10

You need to get a proper name Easter Smile

EmmaC78 · 16/04/2017 20:10

Definitely keep the dog Smile

I switched to Aldi at Christmas and was surprised at how much I could save so if you don't already shop there it would be worth trying.

I think £100 a week is manageable.

noeffingidea · 16/04/2017 20:12

This is totally doable, OP.
I would say £50/ week on food, £15 for gas/electric, whatever you think for petrol. I would suggest you try and save a little out of that every week for emergencies. Maybe a tenner.
Really it just comes down to not buying stuff that you don't really need. It's so easy to go to the shop for milk and end up spending money on stuff you don't really want.

user1489226029 · 16/04/2017 20:12

I keep trying solo but it is saying my password is wrong!!!! Not sure may have to start again. As you can tell I'm not good with technology Blush

NoLotteryWinYet · 16/04/2017 20:14

Yes I'm looking at my ddog who's been fed complete dry food for his entire very long and healthy life and wondering where I went wrong (not).

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/04/2017 20:14
