I want to conduct a survey on the effect a coloured mug has on the taste of a brew.

Is it just me who can't drink tea from mugs that are painted anything other than white on the inside ?? It never tastes or looks right.

Dp just did the shakey head thing, ds drinks coffee and always uses the same, white mug so he was useless. What say the tea brewer's of mumsnet ??

I have favourite mugs, but I don't think it has an impact. I've got a variety of different coloured mugs. For me it's the volume they can carry Grin

The Australians got there first:

Oh my god yes! No coloured insides (especially not black), no thick mugs, no oversized mugs, no triangular handles, plain preferred to patterned (and definitely no company freebie mugs), and different mugs for morning and evening (though that's probably just me).

My in laws laugh at us for being fuddy duddy when it comes to our mug rules (we're early/ mid thirties)

PavlovianLunge · 16/04/2017 05:20

I remember the brief 80s fashion for black, octagonal crockery. A friend had some, it was fugly to look at and the mugs were impossible to drink from.

GnomeDePlume · 16/04/2017 05:46

Thank you for this thread, I had worried I was the only one!

I have to add another one. I wont drink out of a green mug - makes whatever is in the mug taste like soup (which is an abomination in itself).

BakedBeeeen · 16/04/2017 06:19

Tea out of dark mugs - yuk! Also, why does tea taste so rank out of a thermos? My OH drinks orange squash from a mug (white) which I also think is just wrong...

Cary2012 · 16/04/2017 07:37

A mug!! No...tea has to sipped from a bone china cup and saucer.
Am right posh, I am Wink

Absolutely must be white in the inside as a minimum, preferably totally white china. DH also doesn't understand my mug rules and why I looked so cross when he gave me tea in a black mug - wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong.

I would rather forego the tea than have it in a substandard inappropriate mug or cup

BeanSprout79 · 16/04/2017 07:50

Tea in a bone china cup is the only way to drink it. Tastes delicious.

Deathraystare · 16/04/2017 07:50

Don't know about colour of mug but personally I prefer a bone china cup or mug. Not that I personally have any mind you but I know tea tastes much better then!

CaoNiMartacus · 16/04/2017 08:01

I don't mind colour so much, but I am VERY specific about size and shapes. This explains why, on Easter morning, I am drinking out of a Christmas mug at my parents' house. It's the only one that's "right"!

SelfObsessionHoney · 16/04/2017 08:17

My favourite cup to drink tea from is all tea stained on the inside.
It knows it's a good tea cup.

roywoodsbeard · 16/04/2017 11:42

I'm just drinking a cuppa out of my favourite mug - Cornishware blue and white striped mug. Best tea ever, especially after a cooked breakfast.
