To ask how you eat your Hot Cross Buns?

Pinkvici22 · 15/04/2017 18:07

I'm 37 and I've never eaten one. My dad has just delivered 2 Hot Cross Buns....and looked at me like I was insane when I said I'd never tasted one!

Do I eat it as is with butter, toast it, something more exciting?

Heated in the oven and then split and buttered (or without butter) but definitely heated in the oven rather than toasted!

HelenaWay · 15/04/2017 18:34

People put cheese on their hot cross buns?!Shock

CaoNiMartacus · 15/04/2017 18:40

Since my recent discovery of M&S hot cross bun LOAF (!!!!), I now eat mine like goddamn toast. Best thing ever.

RedStripeIassie · 15/04/2017 18:42

Buttered with crispy bacon. Trust me, it works!

Huldra · 15/04/2017 18:42

toasted, butter, slice of extra mature cheddar.

LockedOutOfMN · 15/04/2017 18:55

Apple ones from m and s coz they're soft and no chewy or spiky bits. I toast then under the grill two at a time and eat a third one untoasted while waiting for the others to toast. I always burn them a bit accidentally. No need for butter. DH gets the fourth one in the pack, he puts Old Amsterdam cheese in his. We live abroad so they're a rare treat.

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 15/04/2017 19:19

I don't. Horrible things! Wink

housesellingrant · 15/04/2017 19:25

Toasted on one side, the side you are buttering only.

Tangoandcreditcards · 15/04/2017 19:29

Toasted with butter, mainly
I do like a cheeky one with a lump of cheddar (they're basically bread impregnated with pickle)
And (I'm going to get grief for this), but they are amazing with salami

Tangoandcreditcards · 15/04/2017 19:30

redstripe - yep. That's a good un too.

CantChoose · 15/04/2017 19:30

DH says the only way is oven-warmed whole then cut in half and smothered in butter.
I prefer mine halved then toasted, a little butter and a dollop of marmalade. Yum.

CasperGutman · 15/04/2017 20:29

Oven-warmed, then split and buttered is OK, but the best way is halved, toasted and buttered. I won't complain if they're lightly toasted, but to be honest I enjoy them more if they're well done, even fractionally burnt on the edges! I'm the same with teacakes.

Trumpssyrup · 15/04/2017 20:43

I'm dying to see if you liked it!!!

Pinkvici22 · 15/04/2017 20:49

Trump I'm sorry to have kept you in suspense....

I considered the replies, and I lightly toasted them smothered in butter. Honestly, it didn't excite me one bit. I won't be eating the second one wipes away tears having built up the excitement of my first Hot Cross bun

Thanks all Blush

Wuuuuuuut! Food of the gods! Smirch you heathen.... 😣😶😥

BlueDaisies · 15/04/2017 22:15

DH eats his dunked in tea, yes DUNKED IN TEA. Makes me feel funny. I tried it once...bloody awful! Soggy awfulness. So don't do that.

blackteasplease · 15/04/2017 22:18

Toasted with butter.

My ex MIL always does them cold but that's because she can never be arsed to do things properly!

Racheyg · 15/04/2017 22:36

Grilled, just onside so it doesn't get burnt and still squidgy lots and lots of salted butter. God I'm hungry and very jealous Grin

SabineUndine · 15/04/2017 22:46

Toasted, untoasted, with butter, jam or commando. I don't mind.

BUT NOT MARMITE. EVER.

Meekonsandwich · 15/04/2017 22:48

I like mine in the bin. Where they belong.

Haha!!! Seriously though when I was younger I thought the white cross was icing and assumed it'd be like a cake, boy was I disappointed!!

Grilledaubergines · 15/04/2017 22:53

Cut in half, toasted, lemon curd spread on. Absolutely delicious!

SoftSheen · 15/04/2017 22:54

Hot Cross Buns should, ideally, be warmed through in the oven rather than toasted. Then the outside goes slightly crisp whilst the centre remains soft and fluffy.

I like the M&S hot cross buns with salted Yeo Valley butter.

MrsKoala · 15/04/2017 22:55

Cold with salted butter and really strong cheddar.
