To be irrationally angry with the cat?

The (much loved) damn cat has pooed in the kids sand tray and I am irrationally angry with him.
He has a litter tray indoors, won't go outside normally so why the bloody sand tray?
I think I'm only cross because I didn't notice until the toddler told me he had found it and had had his hands in there (much scrubbing of toddler took place)

Any tips to stop it happening again?
AIBU move his food bowl as punishment as it is the best way to make him cross? Wink

Does the sand tray not have a cover?

Sparklingbrook · 15/04/2017 18:01

Sad It's the perfect cat loo isn't it a sand pit?

Is there anything you could cover it with?

Pinkandwhiteblossoms · 15/04/2017 18:02

Oh, it's really annoying when they do stuff like this. One of ours wees on your clothes if you leave them on the floor which I know you shouldn't but sometimes things fall down Blush

SmileEachDay · 15/04/2017 18:03

The cat is probably pretty pissed off that you let the toddler play in its outside toilet.

ImNotAFlower · 15/04/2017 18:03

It has a ruddy great lid that we ALWAYS use when they aren't using it, he did it while the kids were in the garden playing! (I'm quietly impressed he had the balls considering the toddler had a spade Grin)

Cats are all descended from the African Wild cat or something which lives in the desert so no wonder your cat's taken a liking to the sand tray.

I'd get a cover for it if I were you.

TheSpottedZebra · 15/04/2017 18:04

It could be any cat that pooed innthe sandpit, so you can't punish yours!
And you need to cover it, as there will be queues of cats waiting to take a dump there if you don't.

TheSpottedZebra · 15/04/2017 18:05

Oh, cross post. Grin

haveacupoftea · 15/04/2017 18:05

He's a cat...he doesn't understand that he shouldn't shit in the sand pit Confused

Put a cover on it.

Angelicinnocent · 15/04/2017 18:06

Mix some jeyes fluid with water in a watering can and douse the sand. Cat won't go near it for about 6 months. Obviously, toddler can't play in it for a few days until all the sand has properly dried out.

DramaAlpaca · 15/04/2017 18:07

Oh dear. Reminds me of when my neighbours were having some building work done and had a pile of sand outside their patio doors. It was just too tempting for my cat, who regularly used it as a toilet - much to the amusement of the neighbours' toddler, who used to get very excited watching the toilet action from inside Blush

Fortunately my neighbours are lovely and were more amused than annoyed. They didn't actually tell me about it until much later, when they'd finished the building work.

FruSkogKattOla · 15/04/2017 18:07

You can't 'punish' a cat with subsequent 'consequences' in the future after their indiscretion - they won't have a clue what you're doing, why you're doing it and it will hugely distress them.

I agree with a cover for the sand pit.

ImNotAFlower · 15/04/2017 18:09

I wouldn't punish the furry menace, I should have known better than to be flippant about a cat on here.
The sandpit HAS A COVER the kids were playing with it at the time!
I will look into that repellant thank you!!

Put cats bowl in sand pit for next meal. They are supposedly very clean and won't poop where they eat. So feed him in sand pit for a few dinners.
