I don't think it's a carpet beetle larvae. They are similar but I think it's a caterpillar...possibly some variety of silk moth...I have been looking this up. Interest piqued.

I have googled. The result is that its a child-eating alien that disguises itself among the fibres of kids woollies. You had best burn your washing and evacuate the house OP - These alien creatures have a habit of breeding you know.....Especially if they are fed after midnight. Please tell me you haven't fed it??!!!

Think of it this way? If it was on her hat it's far more likely to have dropped off something overhead, like a branch say, than crawled the length of her body to perch up there.
I say caterpillar.
