My DS 4 has just started football training as loves playing it at home so as to avoid any more damage thought this may be a fun way for him to let off little steam. Twenty little boys running around having a great time, lovely, if it wasn't for the bloody parents shouting from the sidelines as if their dc's are about to be picked for the next premiership team!!!! All for encouraging your child but come on THEY'RE FOUR...

omg that reminds me of when ds played football with the baevers(ok he never touched the ball just chatted to his mate) there was one dad who just stood behind the goal shouting at his son who was in goal. nightmare.
no you are not unreasonable.

Greensleeves · 09/03/2007 22:23

Oh god, organised sport really teases out the inner tosspot in some parents, especially blokes, and especially blokes who are too old/fat/crap to play themselves. Just snigger at them. Or take something to read.

TenaLady · 09/03/2007 22:25

I love it I chuckle away at the dads screaming at their kids on the side lines then I just cant help myself competing against them and finding myself shouting for my ds louder then them.

I do laugh at myself when Ive got carried away though.

brimfull · 09/03/2007 22:26

I am really really disappointed to hear this.
My ds is 4.5 and has been talking about joing football for ages and ages.I just know he would hate it if people were shouting .That'll really put him off.

Can't the ref tell them to shut up.

ediemay · 09/03/2007 22:29

my brother gave up coaching & refereeing the local kids after constant streams of abuse from the fathers

TenaLady · 09/03/2007 22:32

oh no, there isnt any abuse at our club just loud words of encouragement towards the kids.

'keep yer eye on the ball'
'the goal is at the other end'
'stop pickin your nose'

brandy7 · 09/03/2007 22:32

quite normal for the competitive parents to scream. at my boys old team there was a woman with pink hair who jump up and down screeching every time her boy got the ball. me and my mate used to crack up laughing.

of course her son was crap at footie anyway

not so bad when they get older, my ds is now 12 and we dont shout anymore unless its a "GOAL!!!"

bandstand · 09/03/2007 22:40

whn my ds started we had to sign a contract not to be aggressive or unreasonable as bystanders

LilyLoo · 10/03/2007 09:59

LOL Tena Lady. Wouldn't let it put you off ggirl he still loves it just feel sorry for some of the other little ones as you say greensleeves and it seems it's their kids who really haven't any interest in the game at all just being pressured to do it!
