Good, long article on Turkey. Several today on authenticity of alleged coup. Turkey was an equal rights, secular democracy under Kemal Ataturk in 1920s.

The whole situation in turkey is deeply troubling. The "coup" absolutely stunk and this referendum is just appalling. He used the coup to crack down violently on opposition and will use this referendum to cement a dictatorship. Considering the key positioning of turkey and it's importance in managing the terrorist threat as well as the refugee situation the west should be very, very worried about this. It concerns me that it is not covered far more in the press and there seems to be a lack of real vocal opposition from Europe (though i guess this is due to the complexity of the terrorist and refugee situation mentioned).

I fear we could all be looking in open mouthed horror at trump while the whole time Erdogan is quietly setting things up to cause mayhem from the other direction.

DH says the rumour that the US 'interfered' with the NK missile launch appears to be 'gaining ground' in certain circles.

If it's true, I'll bet it was so Trump wouldn't have to live up to his willy-waving. Either that or it was done behind his back out of fear that if it was successful, he'd try to take 'action'.
