Posting for traffic and sage advice

I'm clueless about face creams. I'm now 32 and wondering if it's a good time to start with this. My skin tends to be normal with the odd dry patch a couple of times a year. I don't wear make up so don't have anything moisturisery incorporated there.

I'm bemused by face creams, night creams etc

My mum always used them in my childhood but has recently switched to using suncream daily regardless of the weather but I think she also has other creams for night time. My brother uses cocoa butter.

I have no clue if it even makes a difference (tempted to just do half my face for a few months). I used to be rubbish at keeping any type of beauty routines like moisturising my legs or even shaving on set days. Now having a kid routines are everywhere so I think I might be ready for it now.

Do you use anything? What do you swear by? When is best to apply?

Also I don't like feeling stuff on my face hence the no make up so nothing too greasy or heavy.

Go to the skincare thread, they are nice and helpful!

I've learned so much in a couple weeks

The SPF in moisturiser or makeup isn't very good because you don't put enough of it on and it's not as stable as the normal SPF so it stops working quicker.

So far I just cleanse, apply serum and then moisturise. (Less than £25 total I think). Doesn't take long.

I'll start using SPF 50+ soon even though I'm mixed race and never burn in England. And then add in a couple other things to see how they go.

I'm aiming to look 18-20 at 30 Grin

Cleanse. Don't bother with toner unless you're really greasy. Exfoliate regularly and moisturise with a minimum spf 15.

I wash my face with a simple cleanser wash once or twice a day, and put on olay moisturizing fluid afterwards. That's it. I've bought an olay moisturiser with spf in to use in the summer but I can't use it all the time or it gives me spots. I've always washed my face and used moisturiser since i was a teenager.

olderthanyouthink I'm mixed raced too and have only burned once in Kenya but I'm also quite religious with sunscreen on holiday.

Just wondering if sunscreen has a moisturising effect why do people bother with an spf moisturiser? I get it as a bonus in make up or set skin types. Interesting to hear it doesn't really work unless caked. It prob wouldn't be for me anyway.

So would cleansing and something like moisturiser or serum be good for night and then cleansing (or more likely reg face wash only) and sunscreen in the day be a good set up?

I use the tinted SPF25 I mentioned below precisely because it's not smelly or cacky like regular sunscreen and I don't need makeup with it. It's moisturiser, sunscreen and foundation in one.

Start simple. Olay daily moisturiser spf 15 (in a pot, not a bottle) is a good all rounder. You really need an spf included if you want to stave off wrinkles. It does work.
