To do absolutely nothing all day?

I'm not at work today and I took DCs to their dad's for a few days yesterday. I have nothing planned for today. What I would really like to do is have a quick shower and put on some clean PJs and then just MN and watch Mad Men on Netflix all day. However, I have my mum's voice in my head telling me that this is a terribly slovenly thing to do and that my time would be far better spent catching up with chores and perhaps going for a brisk walk to get 'out and about'. AIBU?

For Gods sake just do what pleases you, you don't owe anyone an explanation.
I don't bat an eyelid when I idle a whole day away. I tell myself it's my just reward for all the crazy busy days I have otherwise.

Anatidae · 13/04/2017 08:40

I have that voice too.
On my behalf, tell it to fuck off and get your PJs on ;)

eddielizzard · 13/04/2017 08:40

this is so true - we hear our mother's voice in our heads and i think this is the source of my guilt. enjoy your day and don't feel bad about it. you've worked for it and you deserve it.

and on this note i now am very careful of the sorts of things i say to my kids. i don't want them to feel guilty with my horrible voice in their heads when they're grown up. i want them to hear my encouraging voice Smile [smug]

I believe it's called mindfulness and a battery recharge. Enjoy ur pjs. Did you buy any chocolate?

123MothergotafleA · 13/04/2017 08:43

I'm currently slouching in bed on MN, have got a stinking cold mind you,but I don't intend to move unless I have to, eg to go to the loo or downstairs for my breakfast, which I'm taking back to bed.
Am I bovvered?? Not bloody likely.

A netflix marathon does sound fab!

Saracen · 13/04/2017 08:47

YANBU. You are not your mum. Do what feels right to you.

BarbaraofSeville · 13/04/2017 08:48

I wouldn't even bother with the shower.

CheckpointCharlie2 · 13/04/2017 08:48

I am SOOOO jealous! We have dds step MIL visiting from overseas and it's v difficult, three days to go!

Honestly have a brilliant day and no guilt, just think of all of us wishing we were doing it too! Here's some Chocolate

CheckpointCharlie2 · 13/04/2017 08:49

DH's step MIL

IHeartDodo · 13/04/2017 08:51

Do it!
I usually do a task while I do it so I still feel productive! Eg last weekend I watched telly all Saturday but I fixed a lamp so I didn't feel guilty!

tinyterrors · 13/04/2017 08:54

Go for it. A lazy day does you the world of good and you can catch up on other things another day. I'd love a lazy day with no dcs but settle for one with them here.

We always have a lazy day or three during school holidays. Me and the dcs spend the day in pjs and watch movies all day. It's the perfect antidote to the usual up early, rushing round to get out of the house every day for school / work and being on the go all day and crashing at night.

It also teaches my dc's to entertain themselves. I have friends who complain about the expense and energy they spend constantly taking their dcs out every day of the holidays or they'll be bored.

Wells20 · 13/04/2017 08:57

It;s not lazy or slovenly, it is recharging the batteries so that you can be refreshed and 'on' again when work / Dcs come back.

Essential for mental health. My dad calls them 'not going past the letterbox days'.

The only thing I would add is that you need to make yourself a delicious meal of all the things you love or order takeaway and nourish body as well as soul.

Enjoy!

SpookyPotato · 13/04/2017 09:07

Do it! We all need to look after ourselves and have chance to relax, life isn't about being busy all the time. Some people have a weird attitude to this.. I know someone who be horrified that I spend a whole day in my pyjamas sometimes! I do like that it's becoming more acceptable to not always be 'ready' for visitors/being productive like it used to be in past generations.

FanDabbyFloozy · 13/04/2017 09:17

I don't think I've ever had a day like this! I would be bored in an hour.

I'm trying to think back to my pre-DC days and I'd go to the cinema (alone if needed), coffee, walk etc.

Like a pp said, some people aren't chipped like this and maybe your mum is like me.

Your day - do what you want!

gottaloveascamhun · 13/04/2017 11:44

I'm having a pj day today. Have a temperature and swollen tonsils, not nice.... however by a massive stroke of luck my DH has a day's holiday so he's taken the children out and I'm napping, drinking tea, watching daytime grown up tv (not sodding Paw Patrol!) And making a nice lunch for myself to eat in peace. More napping planned for later. Grin we've had a rough few weeks with various illnesses, lots of disturbed sleep, a hospital admission and manic work so I'm delighted to have a day to myself.
