To say that Paw Patrol has become unbelievable

PseudoBadger · 11/04/2017 07:34

I could just about get on board with a super rich 10 year old boy living by himself with a troop of talking, dexterous, multi-skilled puppies.
I wrote off the mer-pup episode as a group hallucination caused by too much wood smoke on the beach.

But having not seen any episodes for a while, I have just seen one which,
I'm afraid to say, stretched the bounds of reality. Adventure Bay robbed of gravity by a floating alien craft. The pups involved in ridiculously complex and skilled rescues. They may as well have had Ryder jumping over a shark on water skis. Shock

This is almost as unbelievable as The Archers became during the Sean O'Connor editorial period. The creators are mocking us. 3 year old DD doesn't care, but I just can't suspend my disbelief any more Sad

Paw Patrol just gets more ridiculous. And that bloody chicken! She doesn't give a shit.

OldBooks · 11/04/2017 09:40

I don't think they vote for Mayor Goodway. She's always banging on about great grandpa Grover or whatever he's called, so I think it's a hereditary position.

SalemSaberhagen · 11/04/2017 09:41

Chase definitely has a thing for Skye. Which makes me wonder, have they all been neutered?

NotAPuffin · 11/04/2017 09:43

I'm so glad that DS has decided he's too old for Paw Patrol and now all he wants is Power Rangers.

Oh, no, wait...

Thankfully DD loves How to Train your Dragon, which is actually really good. I adore Toothless.

Imabadmummy · 11/04/2017 13:14

I am literally on the floor laughing at this. I really should take more time to watch & analyse the kids cartoons lol.
Never noticed the Chase/Skye thing....I'm gonna need to go watch a few now.

We are Paw Patrol mad in our house, we have all the pups and air pups and now they want tracker and the jungle pups!

Having said that youngest is in to super hero's as well, especially transformers and ofter the paw patroller is being reused as a transformer - specially optimus prime.

My eldest likes shimmer & shine. Youngest says that is sooo boring!

LonelyOversharer · 11/04/2017 13:26

The voices are awful because it's been anglicised (is this a word, I mean dubbed into 'english' from, weirdly 'english')... watch it on amazon prime, or, worse, get the dvd for American fake laughing.

We have a chicken ds called chickoletta, it's a boy.

Thankfully this phase is slowly passing. Ds does get cross when we sing "poo patrol" at him.

All hideous, even ds nods off during rusty rivets. Sadly he won't get into Phineas and Ferb, which we actually enjoyed! for years and years with the dd's

whippetwoman · 11/04/2017 13:32

Ah, we're well past this now and into the brilliant Adventure Time and the even better Regular Show. Even the four year old doesn't like Paw Patrol now and watches Ethan Gamer TV on the iPad. Quite miss it now actually. Don't miss Blaze and the Monster Machines though...

CanaryFish · 11/04/2017 13:36

Ryder is just a kid with a puppy (chase) playing in his back yard making up games with his teddies (other pups) and toy trucks

SaltySalt · 11/04/2017 13:39

We're over paw patrol and onto fireman Sam and Super Wings over and over!

I long for adventure time and regular show but ds2 is all about Minecraft now

Cheerybigbottom · 11/04/2017 13:40

Am I correct in thinking SuperWings is from the makers of Paw Patrol? No evidence it just seems familiarly annoying when ds (5) watches it. Stupid airplanes delivering one package to a recipient across the world, are they millionaires?!

Son also seems keen on shimmer & shine. Hate it. Long for the iggle piggle days.

PseudoBadger · 11/04/2017 13:48

Every time I see Superwings it's the same Hawaiian Hula episode

SailAwayWithMeHoney · 11/04/2017 13:53

I made the mistake of buying DS Paw Patrol DVD from Wilko. Fuck me is it so much more annoying with American accents Shock

ShelaghTurner · 11/04/2017 13:55

Loving the idea of Paw Patrol jumping the shark Grin My 5yo loves it. I've had to ban her playing the theme tune, luckily Netflix seems to skip the into.

BearsDontDigOnDancing · 11/04/2017 18:12

It is all Phineas and Ferb and Gravity Falls in this house now. Which I actually quite enjoy. Love a bit of Phineas and Ferb and Agent P.

The Paw Patrol phase was short lived. Was all about Octonauts in our house.

DD used to love Princess Sofia but I hated that show.

Serenitymummy · 11/04/2017 18:51

DS has finally outgrown PP and progressed onto PJ Masks. Not loads better but much more tolerable to listen to. Does have a slightly more mature taste sometimes though and right now we're watching Avengers Assemble - win!!!

GeillisTheWitch · 11/04/2017 18:54

I don't mind Sofia but I would cheerfully punch Aunt Tilly and her equally annoying boyfriend.

NunntheWiser · 12/04/2017 08:29

I wrote this about Postman Pat a while ago.

In the last couple of weeks or so, the baby has become much more aware of the television. Previously I might have the TV on in the background, half-watching repeats of ER or the news. Not repeats of the news. That would be pointless. You know what I mean. But recently, the baby has definitely been noticing and responding more to the television. Which means, during the 30 minutes each day I'm clearing the kitchen or putting laundry on, I do occasionally plonk her in front of CBeebies.

And, my, haven't things changed since my day? I'm not even going to write about In The Night Garden, her favourite, at the moment, as it's so intense, I think it will take at least one whole post. There are all sorts of CGI programmes, including a really disturbing thing called dirtgirlworld which I think is to do with caterpillars or some shit. Basically nine out of 10 children's programmes are to do with ecology, gardening, farming, that sort of thing. The sort of stuff that's really useful growing up in the suburbs of London.

So I was delighted to see a relic from my childhood has still made it to television. Good old Postman Pat is still going strong. And he's even got a new series called Postman Pat - Special Delivery Service. As far as I can tell, this is exactly the same as regular Postman Pat, except a quite good looking guy called Ben (is it wrong to fancy a stop-motion model?) phones Pat on his mobile (I know!), tells him it's special delivery, and Pat puts on a badge.

But whilst I may remember Pat fondly from my youth, there have been some significant changes in his life, and not just the acquisition of a mobile phone.

Firstly, Pat is married! The line in the song, "Pat thinks he's a really happy man" always bothered me. It was the "thinks", I reckon. As if he wasn't a really happy man, but he's convinced himself he is. Still, now he has a wife, and a child, so has clearly got some. Which might go some way to increase his happiness. He also still has Jess the cat. This seems somewhat unlikely as his child is at least 10 and even if Jess was a kitten in 1981, she'd be 32 by now. Which is middle-aged in human years. I suspect there may have been more than one "Jess", after the first Jess "went to live on a farm". Or indeed, as the rhyme from my childhood went, "Postman Pat, Postman Pat, Postman Pat ran over his cat".

Secondly, Pat only flies a fucking HELICOPTER. In addition to his Range Rover, regular van, forklift truck and motorbike. Pat must have spent the last thirty years taking tests and applying for licences. More worrying is that Jess sits at the front of the helicopter wearing goggles. I don't think this is safe.

Thirdly, Greendale remains the centre for localised natural disasters. As far as I can tell, it's the only place in the world that regularly suffers from hurricanes, flooding, severe snow storms and OH MY GOD, Mrs Goggins is still alive.

Fourthly, I'm not sure Pat is using his new responsibilities correctly. Case in point; the church needed a new bell delivering. The Hindu family in Greendale seemed disproportionately politically-correctly excited about this. A tree blew down (hurricane) and blocked Pat's special delivery from getting there. Good old Ted used his farm vehicle to help Pat out (why Pat didn't take the aforementioned Range Rover in the first place, I don't know).

So the bell gets to the church safely and on time (no thanks to Pat and his piss-poor planning), but - SHOCK - the crane can't get there because of the tree that's blocking the road. Did the vicar really think it would be a good idea to actually install the bell at the opening ceremony? Surely that could have been taken care of ahead of time. Who wants to watch a bell being installed? No-one. Not even the politically-correct Hindus.

Anyway, Pat to the rescue again, and Ted takes him back to HQ where he picks up the helicopter (yes the HELICOPTER) and uses it to fit the church bell. Firstly, is Pat trained in campanology (it wouldn't surprise me with all the other shit he's been up to recently)? But more importantly, a helicopter, Pat? Really? Ignoring the fact that you're not getting paid for this little excursion and each helicopter flight costs a few hundred pounds (who's going to pay for that, Pat? The taxpayer?), the main reason the crane couldn't get there was the hurricane. Do you remember the hurricane, Pat? It happened three minutes ago. And now you're flying a helicopter dangerously close to a building. This could be Greendale's 9/11.

Theme tune's still catchy though. Om pom pom, Om pom pom etc. etc.

SarniaCherie · 12/04/2017 09:47

DD has just turned 6 and as well as Paw Patrol, PJ Masks, Shimmer & Shine et al she has discovered the Lego Friends animation. Some of the plots are so vapid.
I got her some of the builder sets for her birthday and was pleased to see Olivia in her lab building robots (big-up for girls in sciences etc, etc). But no they had to spoil it with the product description and contents, c & p below:
"Accessory elements include a remote control, tools, binoculars, cup and a baby bottle".
"Get busy in Olivia’s lab and help her invent some new robots! Take a good look at the plan on her drawing board then use all the tools and get building. Now her trusty robot friend Zobo has Zuzu and baby Zobito to keep him company! Place the robots on their charging stations and don’t forget to feed Zobito with the bottle!"
A ROBOT DOES NOT NEED FEEDIND WITH AN EFFING BABY BOTTLE, JUST FUCK OFF LEGO, I'M SO DISAPPOINTED IN YOU Sad

Am I the only one who's likes Paw Patrol?😮 the programs I utterly hate are Night Garden - dim characters ..jibberish talk..annoying sounds, ugh😬 twirly woos..funnily enough made by the same people...Teletubbies is horrid beyond belief. can't believe it's made a comeback
PP rocks. .have 3/4 dvds we have to rotate ...because 1 is not enough..I like it...but not repeated half a dozen bleepin times😕 kids 4, 3 and 1 all Love it..and I indulge with themed srltuff like clothes and toys too

CraftyMummyof3Tiddlers · 12/04/2017 10:11

*stuff not srltuff

hiveofactivity · 12/04/2017 10:39

I didn't realise PJ Masks was a real programme until I saw this thread - I thought dd had made it up!
There must be some link between PP, Octonauts and PJ masks...its like PP is the gateway drug...

HappyParent2000 · 13/08/2019 18:36

I’m pretty sure Ryder has an older sister who lives in Bark York. She has a team of adult dogs in similar roles to the paw patrol.

I guess they would be called Team 9 or something (sounds like canine?)

Frankola · 13/08/2019 21:46

My dd has just ditched PP for Peppa Pig.

I'm currently deciding which character I hate most
