To take baby abroad?

I know lots of people take babies on holiday and that's fine. I'm just wondering if it's really worth it. I think being away would be ok but the travelling puts me off.

She'll be 8 months, 2.5 hour flight, Majorca but may so not to hot i think. Would ideally like to go for sake of DS who is 6 and loves a foreign holiday. Dh and I obviously fancy it too.

I've tried the travel section but not had much luck. Worth it or nightmare? Also any experiences and advice?

Thanks

Thanks all. I've got an appointment for Durham on Tuesday. Apparently passport will then be posted out within 7 days. I don't dare book the holiday until I've at least had the appointment and know that it's gone well. I'm worried I'll book it then the application will be rejected for some reason and we'll be stuffed. But my dh is urging me to risk it, saying we will lose flights etc. Sad

We went to Newport for DD1's passport (after booking flights!). It really was very straightforward and they check all the details there. The passport came 48 hours later.

Ecureuil thank you that's very reassuring to hear, roll on Tuesday!

I did post office check and send for 2 year old DD's first passport last month and it came within the week! I was at the post office at about 3pm on the Monday, passport was posted through our door Friday morning - I was amazed it was so fast so you should be fine.

Went to AUSTRALIA with a 6 month old DD and then when she was almost 2 and baby DS 6 months...if we could do that, you'll be fine...There were no major issues but be prepared with food and baby supplies and realise that babies do what they do...go for it

My parents took me to Yugoslavia when I was six weeks old - 51 years ago. I was treated like a queen apparently.

Yes do it at 8months - we did 18 months which was a bit hideous. Pre walking is better. The flight may be shit so mentally prepare yourself!

ljfarminer · 12/04/2017 23:55

Definitely do it! Especially easy before they start walking/talking. Get a good sling and/or "backpack" type (framed) baby carrier. Planes are easy as long as you make babies/toddlers drink frequently during take off and landing. Don't forget the sun cream! Enjoy :-)

Funnyface1 · 13/04/2017 08:06

I'm going to be honest now. I suppose i don't want to be "that" person on the plane that everybody hates. Which is stupid because I really don't care what people think of me. But if i thought they were thinking i was a bad parent for bringing my baby on an unnecessary trip I suppose it would bother me. I suppose you can't win, just have to do what you think is best. Some people will be tolerant and some won't.

I don't judge people for taking their babies on planes but I think some people can be quite harsh about things like that. It's been so nice to hear such positive comments, thank you.

I'm in Thailand at the moment and the hotel is full of European babies and children who seem very happy!
