AIBU to wonder what happened to party clothes?

If my DC (4 and 2) are going to a party, I always put them in their 'party clothes'. This usually means like a little patterned shirt and chinos for my DS and a dress or frock for DD. But I've noticed that loads of people these days tend not to dress their kids up. Even for their own parties? No judgement here whatsoever, I guess it's just what kids are comfortable in but my DS loves dressing up in his party clothes!

I'm not including soft play or fancy dress here, obviously.

All the parties we’ve been to this year have been party clothes ones. My daughter loved dressing up after missing out on parties all year.

Mine love a theme t shirt like minecraft or pokemon. They look really cute and only going to wear them for so long. Plenty of time for shirts and chinos when they are 30

My DD5 always insists on wearing a pretty dress, whatever type of party it is. And contrary to the nonsense usually trotted out on these threads, it's definitely possible to bounce on a bouncy castle, run around having a water fight, AND play football in a party dress - mine did all of those things at her own party last weekend.

Depends entirely on the child. I’m happy to buy party style clothes for my eldest, who will wear them at every available opportunity. For my youngest, there’s a very narrow range of clothes that are tolerable to wear. Making an event more stressful for him isn’t going to help anyone, so his ‘smart’ party clothes are much less formal - usually similar textures to his school uniform but in different colours.

Ds would occasionally wear a shirt. Lots of fancy dress up to about 6. Dd was partial the odd dress, handed down from a cousin. But like pp have said, parties were all about running around or soft play. I just about got ds into a shirt and smartish shorts for his leaver's do.

Its a party dress day every day for my DD (3). I have to force her to wear leggings and tops! She doesn't struggle with climbing or playing and I don't care if she gets filthy.
