Ok my 10 month old is an epic sleeper he sleeps 7pm 7:30am every night without fail, last night he was very unsettled then woke screaming and sobbing at 1am he was burning up. Checked his temp it was 38.4 gave him Calpol and some milk,he was awake until almost 3am then fell asleep in our bed finally between us until morning when he again awoke crying and burning up.Gave another dose of Calpol and his breakfast,he threw up part of it so kept down maybe 4oz out of his usual 8oz of milk and Weetabix. He had a nap and woke looking and acting back to normal but since then he's been up and down all day, seems like his temp comes down with Calpol but goes up again as it wears off (got up to 39c this evening before his supper and Calpol) I rang 101 who said he needs to be seen within 12 hours so I'm waiting for a GP to call me back but have been waiting since 6.20pm he's since gone to bed as usual as he was exhausted and falling asleep drinking his supper bottle (only took 4oz out of the 8oz)
Just took his temp again and it's down to 38c again (cos of the Calpol) should I take him to urgent care centre?? My SIL reckons I should as 38c is high considering he's medicated currently still. He's asleep but fussy and unsettled but I'd feel cruel taking him from his bed where he's getting some much needed sleep to sit in a waiting area for hours?!

I personally find Calpol pretty ineffective with temperatures. I use Ibuprofen and often rotate if it is quite high. I reckon its a bug and will pass. Just keep the temperature at bay with medication and strip to vest and just put a little sheet of him. Plenty of fluids at hand and even an ice lolly. It will pass. Unless there is a rash, i really would just monitor him.

I'm not medically trained but my son regularly had 40 temps. The thing is if his temp is staying down with calpol and you want to keep it down - you need to give calpol and Nurifen at regular intervals. I used to use a stringe to give my son meds during his sleep. You also need to make sure he is not wearing too many clothes.
As I have said, I'm not medically trained but if a temp goes down with calpol then it's usually a virus. If a temp stays up regardless then it's usually a bacterial infection like ear or throat infections so needs antibiotics (but not always).
Regardless, there is nothing wrong with you trusting your instincts and doing what you think is best.

Hey all sorry I've not been back to update it was an eventful bought in the end! He woke screami and sobbing literally 4 mins after I posted this! He was up to 39.4c even with the Calpol 2 hours before so I rang 111 back (had already rang them and had waited 2.5 hours for a GP call back at that point) gave them the update and they advised get him to urgent care centre within the hour for an appointment with a GP. Incidentally there was nothing showing on there system for a call back so it was never coming! Saw a GP and turns out he's got Tonsilitis quite severely so was a good job we took him as he would have got quite poorly indeed otherwise so the GP said. He's got 10 days of antibiotics and have to take him straight back if he's not markedly better within 48 hours. Apparently untreated Tonsilitis can turn quite nasty in adults never mind babies.Glad I listened to my instincts I knew he was poorly he's generally quite a robust little guy.
