To share a healthy dairy free cream egg recipe that beats Mondelez's low quality stuff

This recipe i made last night after seeing on Pinterest. They dont taste the same as normal cream eggs - they are much better imo. I used dark chocolate and just a bit of honey so there is only a fraction of the sugar in there. Dd is loves them also.

It's a shame as i used to love cream eggs but they were always a bit sickly but now i think they've really changed the recipe to add more sugar.

Full of sugar. Paltrow science in action.

Still not unhealthy because no food is.

Sorry. Crap ad coding stuffing up the site.

I didn't say it was sugar free, but it's lower than sugar than the others ones i found that are just icing sugar inside.

If you want a desert with no sugar it's either a salad or artificial sweeteners.

I wasn't talking about your OP brex, the conversion had moved on.

@brexitstolemyfuture - here is another version, with a marshmallow filling and some lemon curd yolks. It should be lighter than the one you posted (and the Mondelez ones too). I think that the marshmallow filling might have less sugar than a denser one?

Goose's Golden Eggs

They look fab although 1 1/2 cups of sugar seems like loads. I do like the gold spray paint I've not seen that before. I think just a light dusting rather than totally covering something would be good.

It does seem a lot. However, I think you'd get more volume because the marshmallow has air added when you whip it. The gold is a lovely touch - you can also get metallic food paints (in wee jars) that work well on chocolate and so you could make them look like painted eggs?

brexitstolemyfuture · 10/04/2017 11:23

I see what your saying about it whipping up but i did like the oringal recipe that it was just a few table spoons of sugar.

I think there is a special name for whisking the chickpea juice, i know i should try it but honestly i like to bin all that juice and then rince them. The consistency of it makes me gag a bit but i have heard that it works, but it's not something you can make in advance as it goes back to chickpea juice quickly. Good for maranges but I'm sure there is a whole reddit dedicated to the failings that I'm looking for now but can't find it

It's called aquafaba, is that what you mean?

TaraCarter · 10/04/2017 12:13

agree with you 100%. All these supposedly-healthy recipes full of sugar-loaded buzzword-friendly alternatives - it's the coconut oil that magics away all that sugar. Hmm Gah!

Always really exotic, niche ingredients, too. The more expensive, presumably the better it is for you? Hmm

brexitstolemyfuture · 10/04/2017 12:42

Yes aquafaba! One of those things I've been meaning to try for years.

This is the group i was talking about m.facebook.com/groups/VeganMeringue/?view=group

I kind of see what your saying about "healthy recipes", but the refined sugar free recipes just use lower amounts of sweeteners and use some that aren't void of all nutrients and minerals. My honey is local and as it's far more expensive than sugar i do use less anyway.

I made vegan cream eggs for DS last year as he is dairy and nut allergic.

It wasn't healthy though, the filling was basically fondant icing mixed with sugar syrup and colouring!
