To think mn has double standards?

If I posted an outfit for example you'd probably get comments saying no one over the age of 18 should wear that etc

But if a male commented that a woman's skirt was too short then all hell would break loose and it's a woman's choice to wear what she wants.

Not everyone on here would say those two conflicting statements obviously, but still some would.

OP posts:

Of course there are. I'll never forget the thread where someone said they'd had an affair because their DH didn't pay them enough attention and 99% of the comments were supportive and it was his fault etc.
The misandry is eye-opening.

Serialweightwatcher · 07/04/2017 14:25

Not MN that has double standards, everyone has their own opinion so I assume that's why it's rare there is a thread where everyone agrees ... also noticed a couple of users come on just to annoy but that's life

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 14:38

Lol at misandry.

Hey Op do you really think the majority of angry feminist types who are annoyed about men's discussions of their skirt length are really going to pull you up for not being in an age appropriate skirt?

EffinElle · 07/04/2017 14:40

Not just mn, there are double standards in just about every aspect of life IMO.

DeleteOrDecay · 07/04/2017 14:44

It's not just mn, it's everywhere. What you need to remember is that the people commenting on one thread may not be the same people commenting on the opposite thread. It's more that different people hold different views rather than there being double standards, if that makes sense.

freeDeirdreRachid · 07/04/2017 14:49

Touched a nerve there. People should be allowed to say whatever they want. Just because you find it pointless and want to belittle someone doesn't make it so.

Cocklodger · 07/04/2017 14:50

Bit different though isn't it. An adult wearing something that looks childish vs a child being told to wear trousers or a longer skirt because it's "distracting for teachers and other kids" (if I recall correctly) Hmm whatever your opinion on either they are totally different

MongerTruffle · 07/04/2017 14:51

That's like saying that the world has double standards.

Cocklodger · 07/04/2017 14:51

Free
I agree.
Just don't whinge when someone responds, considering it's an Internet forum with comment functions..

AldrinJustice · 07/04/2017 14:52

You win some, you lose some Grin I've learnt to let it pass you by. Everyone has an opinion, doesn't mean their opinion should be taken as law

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 07/04/2017 14:56

free, the same could of course be said of your comment to Ferdinand.

But then again I think people who witter on about freedom of speech in the context of internet discussion boards on morons.

freeDeirdreRachid · 07/04/2017 15:06

in the context of internet discussion boards on morons

You have discussion boards dedicated to the topics of morons? How lovely Grin

r0tringLover · 07/04/2017 15:17

Lol at misandry.

Thanks. That's a bit like proving my point, isn't it?

FerdinandsRevenge · 07/04/2017 16:23

NO, because I understand the definition of misandry.

If there was a word for people that really fucking hating dolphins (let's call it misdolphinry) and you said 'Mn was full of Misdophinry' and I said lol, would it prove that we all hate dophins or that I don't think it's a legitimate concept?

r0tringLover · 07/04/2017 16:30

I have no idea what you're saying, but can I have a toke of whatever you're smoking?

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/04/2017 16:32

It must be really terrible for men not to be able to freely comment and judge women's appearances. Poor poor things. And it's not like 90% of human culture is set up to judge women and have them judge themselves.

It's a tragedy. I am henceforth a meninist. Fighting for the equal rights of men to judge women's clothes.

r0tringLover · 07/04/2017 16:42

@Mrs...

"The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it"

I think yours has been filled with nonsense.

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/04/2017 17:15

That's very unkind. Is meninists are very misunderstood. Sad

r0tringLover · 07/04/2017 17:27

Oh, you're pretending to be an MRA in a humorous and condescending way to humiliate anyone who suggests that there are unfair double standards... I get it now. Great job. You were amazing!

EpoxyResin · 07/04/2017 18:21

Does anyone think those endless musings were written with a Rotring?

MN isn't one giant hive mind? Well fancy that.

BenadrylCucumberpatch · 07/04/2017 18:33

There's double standards here, because there's double standards everywhere.

If a woman says she prefers a man to be taller, that's just her personal preference.
If a man says he prefers a woman to be thinner, then he's just a shallow arsehole.

emilybrontescorset · 08/04/2017 12:09

There are double standards regarding relationships. Recently a man posted that his wife was disinterested in him, didnt show affection, wasn't interested in initiating sex anymore etc.
Posters who enquirers about what their sex life was like were shot down. The mere suggestion that the wife might be seeing om was laughed at. Yet if the poster were a woman messages would be full of suggestions that her oh was having an affair and stating that he would be getting his sexual needs met elsewhere.

TheNaze73 · 08/04/2017 12:10

It's hilariously unbalanced at times however, a predominantly male forum would be too.
Huge pinches of salt required
