WIBU to buy a £600 pegasus handbag?

I've discovered this gorgeous handbag. It's the perfect colour and size and the print suits my personality to a tee. It is however £600 so I can't bring myself to buy it. I have all these visions of getting rid of all my other handbags and carrying this one forever. Would I be completely unreasonable to splash out on this bag?

Financial background: we have 1 kid, husband is the main earner at 21,000, mortgage is £500/month, I have small part time job where I make £500 a month, savings about £40,000 from inheritance. But I have no pension fund.

I have a feeling no matter how much money we make it's still unreasonable to buy a £600 handbag with a mythical creature on it however!

It's Aspinal of London. They do have an outlet but I have no idea about their sales as I just discovered them apparently!

It reminds me of those fleece jackets with the wolves howling at the moon on them, sorry!

Haha, I do like those in an ironic sense. But I like this bag unironically :)

It's a great shape and colour. I have a navy Michael Kors one in a similar shape and use it a lot. I think from that alone it would be a good purchase.

Despite my personal opinion on the design OP, if you can afford it, and you really want it, buy it.

eurochick · 07/04/2017 09:11

It will date very, very quickly. I might spend that much if it was a classic I would use for years but not on that.

I'm struggling with my conscience over a £295 Kate Spade handbag. I can afford it but I can't justify paying that much for a handbag, however beautiful it is. My last Kate Spade I bought in an outlet in Las Vegas for about £40 and I have a lovely vintage Mulberry that I bought second hand so in my mind, can't justify another expensive handbag. But it's beautiful!

It's not my cup of tea (and I absolutely LOVE Pegasus!) but if you like it and can afford it, why not? One persons handbag is another's holiday / expensive make up / car / whatever other treat they "value". We all like different things.

strawberrygate · 07/04/2017 09:27

Sorry, but I think it looks cheap

TheEmmaDilemma · 07/04/2017 09:31

Look at it from cost per use value.

I use my LV daily and have for 7 years, and it's still in great shape.

Coffeetasteslikeshit · 07/04/2017 09:38

I think you'd be crazy to spend that much money on a bag. I'd be sorting out a pension first.

AndInShortIWasAfraid · 07/04/2017 09:38

I'm eyeing up the Aspinal Lottie bag, which is a similar price, and have a lot less in savings than you do. I'm having a crappy time (miscarriage, shit neighbours, shit job etc.) so I'm going to say do it. It's not the bag I would go for but if you like it that's all that matters.

CantChoose · 07/04/2017 10:15

baldricks it will almost certainly be in the sale.
But if you'd be sad if you missed out sign up to their newsletter, there's probably an intro offer. And there's regularly a 15% off code.
I also went in once for something and said I'd meant to buy it when the offer was on and forgot but couldn't bring myself to pay full price now and they just gave me 15% off anyway.
My name is cant and I'm an enabler... Grin

BobbyGentry · 07/04/2017 10:33

Aspinal of London, seems to hold its price, if you know you'll use it often then go for it! Perhaps handle the bag before to see if it holds right and won't be annoying as sometimes the idea is better than the product being sold.

ImperialBlether · 07/04/2017 10:39

Sorry, OP, but that looks like something you'd find in Birkenhead market.

PNGirl · 07/04/2017 10:49

I'm saying this as someone who spent £625 of a small inheritance on an oak Mulberry Bayswater - don't. That will clash with anything that's not a plain black or navy outfit.
