have bought a secondhand playmat from ebay to leave at my dh parents for my ds, so that he has something to use when we visit. However when it arrived it smelt and there were two dubious stains on it - which looked like baby puke ! Straight in the washing machine - disgusting!

Yuk ! I sell on ebay and ALWAYS clean things before selling. If there was a mark/stain I couldn't shift, I'd say so. I have 100% feedback representing 100+ transactions, so people don't mind as long as problems are declared...but BABY PUKE ??? Really gross.

glad to hear that is not just me being fussy! I just know that I would have washed it before sending!

I bought a Baby bjorn once and it stunk so much of smoke that I feared the poor baby using it had been on woodbines rather than milk. But baby puke ugggghhhhh

I agree I've had some items from eBay and they have been gross. In fact I but a baby gym in the bin as I couldn't stand the idea of dd1 using it after 1 spend 2 hrs cleaning all the dirty out of every little gap. I also sell on eBay and have 100% after 100+ transactions. I have high standards and always clean all items before selling. If toys or clothes are marked I bin them as I only sell items that are nearly new. I have though of selling other items that are a little well worn but if I do I'll always ensure that I state the condition of them and photo any marks. I once won some vests which were described as bnwot and when they arrived they were grey not white and one of the pink ones had a yellow poo stain around the leg. I'd consider selling faded vests but never poo stained why do people think that we would be happy to put our pride and joy in substandard clothes or let them play with un-perfect toys.

Should just add that these poor eBayer's give a bad name to the rest of us. I wish people would leave correct feedback but so many leave positive when they are unhappy as they are worried that they would get negative left for them in return for no reason which is unfair. I've done this myself so should really look in the mirrow

tortoise · 08/03/2007 22:02

I bought i dressing up outfit which had a yellow stain in the crutch area! Can only assume it was wee.
It was sponge clean only but i hand washed it anyway! Yuk!

Surfermum · 08/03/2007 22:05

I was shocked the other day to get a fleece that was unwashed and covered in cat hairs. I buy a lot of stuff in charity shops or from ebay and it's the first time I've ever gone "Yuk" and thrown it straight in the washing machine.

I don't sell anything I wouldn't want to get myself, so only sell on Ebay the really good stuff.

nally · 08/03/2007 22:09

I once bought Mr Men plate and cutlery set for ds from ebay. It was described as new, but when it arrived the cutlery had dried on food stuck on it and the plate had some on it too. I was really disgusted! I have had other gross stuff from ebay, but that was the one that made me feel sick the most.

nally · 08/03/2007 22:10

On the whole I have had good experiences though.

Boco · 08/03/2007 22:12

I've only ever had to leave bad feedback once, and that was for a bundle of babyclothes that STANK of fags, and the pyjamas still had decomposing breakfast plastered to the front of it - it was sooo revolting that i binned it and left very very strongly worded feedback. scumbags.

NineUnlikelyTales · 08/03/2007 22:19

Bleeugh! Not unreasonable at all.

I bought some new, unused real nappies in a 'day bag.' They all stank of fags and the bag had sticky black stains on it that would not wash out. I would be ashamed to sell something so revolting.

On the whole though, I have been quite lucky with ebay.

BadHair · 08/03/2007 22:25

Bought a dress that was faded and stank of chips when it arrived. I couldn't face wearing it so I washed it twice and re-sold it.

Lovecat · 09/03/2007 08:49

Everything I've bought has been clean, but one bundle I bought last year only arrived the day before we went away and it was summer clothes for the holiday, so I stuck them straight in the suitcase as they were all clean and ironed.

DD's eczema came out on her tummy and underarms when I put one of the t-shirts on her, thought it might be the hot foreign country/different water/some other factor so didn't fuss unduly as she does have v. sensitive skin, put a dress on her from the bundle and she came out from top to toe - thankfully the place had a laundry onsite so I washed it all in non-bio and she was fine thereafter.

Just to make sure, I saved one t-shirt and put it on her momentarily when we got back home - within seconds she was itching!

Perhaps I'm being unreasonable here, but you'd expect baby clothes to be washed in non-bio, wouldn't you?

MamaG · 09/03/2007 08:52

yes the neg feedback thing is infuritating - DH bought something once, it was broken adn despite repeatedly trying to contact the seller, he was just ignored - he left neg feedback and teh seller left negative in return! Then he emailed us saying he knew where we lived etc etc so got banned from ebay but we STILL have the negative feedback

LEMONADEGIRL · 09/03/2007 10:22

some real horror stories! There are some really dodgy types out there

tortoise · 09/03/2007 12:47

Lovecat I have never used non-bio so i wouldn't think to wash clothes i sell in any thing other than what i use.
I normally re-wash clothes before DC wear them anyway.Just because i like their clothes to smell of my washing!

whitechocolate · 09/03/2007 12:52

I'd have sent it back and asked for a refund.

threelittlebabies · 10/03/2007 00:03

I bid on a little tykes transporter on behalf of a friend. Won it, and when she finally received it, it was filthy and there was a snail living in it!

Surprisingly the seller is no longer a registered ebay user...

helenhismadwife · 10/03/2007 19:52

I sell loads on ebay and buy a fair bit to, I always wash clothes and clean things properly before I send them. I have had some really dirty things and have complained, if they dont sort the problem out I will leave negative feedback, as you say unfortunately it does usually get you a negative in return but at least it is honest and my 904 positives make up for the 4 negatives.

Jenkeywoo · 11/03/2007 23:15

I can't stand baby clothes that stink of fags - I've had some so bad that even after a couple of washes they still stink. Makes me sick. If that's what their kids clothes smell like, what about the poor babies hair, skin, lungs?

Busybean · 11/03/2007 23:23

I always wash baby stuff in no bio, declare any stains(although would not sell poo stained stuff) and offer refunds, I have 400+ positves and no negatives. I generally find I dont have a problem with people who sell baby stuff, generally they seem to be likemonded people. its electronics Ive had problesm with- I bought a bubble machine for ds2 christening and it didnt work and I had to pay £5.99 to send it back and get my money back- fecking cheek. not my fault it didnt work

Think the babymat covered in puke is very gross though and would def be inclined to email and ask for money back and if no result leave neg.
