To say rice pudding is the food

Charlie97 · 04/04/2017 21:52

Of the devil!?!?

Even my eldest who ate EVERYTHING, gagged at a very young age at rice pudding.

I make it for OH and youngest and I have to turn my head away when I take it out of the oven.

Orange zest you say lottachoca ?

NoCapes · 04/04/2017 22:17

Oooo I love rice pudding
Piping hot with a blob of jam or a swirl of Nutella
I don't get those little pots that are sold like yoghurts, or the ones of custard either - custard and rice pudding should be served hot as the sun and tease you while they take 10 years to cool enough for you to shovel it in ya gob Grin

AdaColeman · 04/04/2017 22:17

Oh I make mine in the oven with gold top milk, butter, sugar and nutmeg.
It is deliciousness in a bowl.

Never had it out of a tin, in fact, I didn't know you could get it tinned.

podrig · 04/04/2017 22:18

Yum. Mum makes a gorgeous one.

DramaAlpaca · 04/04/2017 22:20

Disgusting, I hate the look of it & the texture. DH makes it sometimes and has it all to himself as the DC & I can't stand the sight of it.

Asmoto · 04/04/2017 22:21

Vile, vile, vile. YANBU. My husband, unaccountably, loves it Confused.

FamilySpartan · 04/04/2017 22:38

Well, there's your first problem OP. You're using cinnamon instead of nutmeg!

robinia · 05/04/2017 00:37

Indeed. Keep it simple. Good quality pudding rice, full fat milk, sugar, heat the rice and sugar together initially, add the milk, grate the nutmeg over and bake in a slow oven. What could be simpler or more delicious?

emmyrose2000 · 05/04/2017 02:04

It is absolutely vile and disgusting.

When I was seven I was away at camp. One night the woman in charge of my dining table insisted I eat this revolting stuff, despite my protests that it'd make me sick. Eventually I ate one mouthful. Then promptly vomited it all up over her lap (she was sitting next to me). I said "happy now?! I told you so!" Needless to say she never made me eat anything I didn't want to after that.

I've never eaten any "mushy" milky/dairy type food since then (except ice cream). Just the sight of things like custard, traditional milky/mushy desserts is enough to make my stomach churn.

SparkleSunshine201 · 05/04/2017 02:32

It's so delicious, my mum made it beautifully, so creamy and comforting. Hot or cold I love it!

AwaywiththePixies27 · 05/04/2017 06:35

You're all doing it wrong Grin

I love rice pudding. My Grandma makes the best. Homemade, straight out the oven with Nutmeg sprinkled on the top.
I grew up with lots of cousins (DF was from a family of 10). We used to fight for the skin on the top we thought it was the best bit! I still do now but to be fair even my own DCs (11&8) think I'm weird for that. Going by this thread they may have a point Blush

I am a complete heathen sometimes though and even have the tinned one with great big dollops of jam.

Sunnysidegold · 05/04/2017 07:16

Delicious! The skin is the best bit IMHO. At my granny's house we would figet over who got the burnt bits at the edges. Husband eats tonnes of the tinned stuff when he's not well.

Grilledaubergines · 05/04/2017 07:20

Ooh I love it. Not tinned, but homemade with sultanas and nutmeg. Ultimate comfort food.

RitaMills · 05/04/2017 07:30

I hate the stuff from the tin but I love the rice pudding my mum used to make sometimes on a Sunday. I've not had it for years but it was really delicious and yes the skin was awesome, all sweet and charred and nutmeggy.

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 05/04/2017 07:36

Rachel's coconut rice pudding is lovely.

The Indian version of rice pudding, Kheer, is lush. Also love Delia's Old Fashioned Rice Pudding recipe, it's great comfort food.

PickAChew · 05/04/2017 07:37

Ds1 would agree with you. He's actually repulsed by it.

chewingawasp · 05/04/2017 07:40

YABVU. I was in a posh restaurant the other day and had a delicious rice pudding with rum soaked raisins.

Okite · 05/04/2017 07:43

Slow cooker rice pudding is the best, I have to make a huge amount every time or everyone whinges there isn't enough. Definitely nutmeg not cinnamon required. And the best bit about slow-cookering it is that there's no disgusting skin!

Anasnake · 05/04/2017 07:51

Lovely - with a blob of condensed milk, yum !

It's Comfort food in our house, made in huge volumes in the slow cooker, plain with jam, cooked with sultanas brown sugar and nutmeg or cinnamon and apple

exexpat · 05/04/2017 08:38

I haven't been able to touch the stuff since being force-fed it at school. That and pickled beetroot are the two things I cannot bring myself to eat even to be polite.

bumbleymummy · 05/04/2017 08:40

Yabvu! I love it with a big dollop of raspberry jam 😊

QuizTeamaAguilera · 05/04/2017 08:49

I love it. Nigel Slater's recipe that involves using clotted cream is amazing. Serve with seedless raspberry jam...I might make one today!

RainbowChasing · 05/04/2017 08:50

YAB so incredibly U. Rice pudding is the food of angels.

I can't believe the level of hate directed towards rice pudding Confused
