AIBU to have eaten the Easter eggs

I'm a massive chochaholic.
I'm also a massive bargain hunter.
But around Easter , these two parts of my ego come to a head.

I buy Easter eggs early when I can get the eggs I want to buy at the price I want to pay.

But it seems that I buy them early and end up eating them before easter. Every year.

Then having to replace them with either more expensive ones, or cheap rubbish chocolate ones by Ben 10 or Hello Kitty.

AIBU to do this every year ? Do others do this ?

I know myself well enough to know that buying Easter chocolate early means buying Easter chocolate twice.

Elllicam · 04/04/2017 20:02

We have chocolate bunnies somewhere. My husband has hidden them after I ate one. I will find them again though.

MrsD28 · 04/04/2017 20:11

I agree with the OP - there is something about chocolate in the shape of an egg (or a bunny, or a chick) that is just.... better.

DH once bought me this (www.amazon.co.uk/Giant-Lindt-Chocolate-Bunny-Presentation/dp/B00B1C85SU) for my birthday - fucking amazing.

SwirlingCockatoo · 04/04/2017 20:15

Sounds normal to me!

Bargain hunt, buy the eggs, eat the eggs, repeat.

See x 50 every year on here

No, Easter eggs are an expensive way of buying chocolate. My desire to buy someone a particular egg (I don't buy many eggs) would be greater than my desire to greedily eat someone else's present. Once I've bought something with someone else in mind I don't think of it as mine. It's not as though there's a shortage of chocolate at this time of year.
Agree chocoholism is just an excuse because people don't like to admit they're greedy.

Sixbeans · 04/04/2017 20:44

Chocoholic I thought was a reasonable name for someone who likes chocolate, a lot. I know deep down it is an addiction to sugar.
I am greedy when it comes to chocolate or sugar based things.
Funny enough, when I buy people chcolates for Xmas tho I never eat them, ever. So I genuinely think it is the egg itself Grin

I do the same! I love Easter eggs the chocolate is so much nicer!

HandbagCrab · 04/04/2017 20:51

I bought expensive ones from hotel choc that are sat in the spare room. They're too dear to eat and replace so will last until next weekend. I used to love Cadbury and mars eggs but they're not worth the calories nowadays :(

abbsisspartacus · 04/04/2017 20:55

I used to love the Cadbury buttons eggs year after year I would binge on them no other Cadbury egg they didn't taste the same logically I know that is b.s. but I did it for years!

onesupplied · 04/04/2017 20:56

You didn't have to eat them, you aren't possessed by a chocoholic spirit that you can't control. You chose to eat them. Just take control of your actions. Why can't you buy yourself an egg at the same time as buying the others to eat yourself? Leave them in the car or hide them? If you really don't trust yourself give them to someone to look after? Although it's pretty ridiculous if you have to resort to this.

It's not really fair that as you say, you have to end up buying cheap crap Easter eggs for everyone else as you've eaten the good ones.

LadyTennantofTardis · 04/04/2017 21:00

My mum has the same or. One year I bought some nice decorate your own eggs from a craft fair, with icing and sweets included for my young cousins and she ate them. The next year she bought the eggs for the family and put them in the freezer to stop herself eating them. She ended up at the dentist with a cracked filling from eating frozen chocolate!

Purplefrogshoes · 04/04/2017 21:01

Easter egg chocolate is the best type of chocolate I always buy extra as I know I won't be able to resist Blush

Iamastonished · 04/04/2017 21:14

"Once I've bought something with someone else in mind I don't think of it as mine."

Glad it's not just me then.

"My desire to buy someone a particular egg (I don't buy many eggs) would be greater than my desire to greedily eat someone else's present."

I agree with this ^^ as well.

ElizabethG81 · 04/04/2017 21:16

Some people are taking this very seriously Grin

I usually do the same OP, but this year I've stashed the eggs I've bought for other people at my mum's house to stop myself. There's definitely something about the chocolate being in egg form that makes it irresistible.

ForalltheSaints · 04/04/2017 21:17

We have not celebrated Good Friday yet. Have some willpower!

skerrywind · 04/04/2017 21:23

Opposite in our house.

I chucked out the kid's Easter eggs in October, unopened, had been sitting in their bedrooms for months.
I have two boxes of chocolates from Christmas that I haven;t opened yet.

Dafspunk · 04/04/2017 21:30

There was some sort of study done a few years ago that was about how people enjoy the same chocolate more in an egg versus a bar because of the shape of the egg and how nicely it suits the curve of your tongue and the thinness gives it a satisfying snap in your mouth, rather than the clunk of hulking great chunks of bar in your gob.

WorraLiberty · 04/04/2017 21:35

Off topic I know, because this has nothing to do with the OP.

But every Easter I hate reading the posts from MNetters saying, "AIBU to eat the DCs Easter eggs because they've been given so many. There's lots left over and Easter was 2 whole weeks ago?"

The replies normally go something like, "YANBU. You're just being kind to their teeth - hehe!"

There's absolutely nothing wrong with kids still having eggs left over, even a couple of months after Easter. In fact it's a very good thing, given how many adults can't resist eating all of theirs in one go.

But taking your child's eggs and eating them yourself, just teaches them that unless they want to lose them, they'll have to start binge eating like their parents.

It's really unfair imo.

Iamastonished · 04/04/2017 21:48

I agree Worra It takes ages for chocolate to get eaten in our house. No, we aren't sanctimonious about it and only eat half a square once a week. We just don't enjoy binge eating chocolate.

skerrywind · 04/04/2017 22:02

I have a cupboard containing chocolate and sweets in the kitchen. My kids have always had unlimited access to it.

Stuff gets chucked out because it reaches its sell by date.

Bananamanfan · 04/04/2017 22:06

Easter egg chocolate is amazing. I admire you, op. I wish i had the balls to do this. I think about it a lot!
