AIBU (I don't think I am) to be getting totally pissed off with the number of drivers that I see driving and texting/talking on a hand-held phone? Despite the recent changes in the law introducing tougher penalties for those caught doing this, and all the publicity concerning road accidents caused by people using phones whilst driving,STILL it goes on. Barely a day goes by without me witnessing at least one incident, usually more. Only this evening I while I was waiting at a bus stop,I saw a man nearly drive through a red light because he was looking at his phone! Will people never learn?

Why does doing make up make you angry? I saw someone brushing their teeth today. They're bonkers but it wouldn't make me angry. I'm assuming you're meaning when they're in traffic/ at lights etc (make up would be fucked otherwise)

No they were driving and were doing their mascara in the rear view mirror! For at least 10 seconds she wasn't looking at the road.
It makes me angry because they are not concentrating fully when in control of a machine that can end someone's life.

It should be caught once, life driving ban , no exceptions. Plus prison sentence if vehicle is a lorry.

I saw a female driving instructor using one in reading the other day. I was irritated as I was planning to send her a text but I forgot her name. It was slow moving traffic but was still stupid. She was looking down at her phone and texting more than she was looking at the road.

Wikky · 03/04/2017 14:06

I have noticed that less people are doing it compared with before the changes.

I use my phone as a sat nav but I turn off all notifications - otherwise it will ring via the Bluetooth and that's really distracting. I don't touch it when I'm driving, I find somewhere to stop, but I'm never sure if that's overkill or not. Is that what you're supposed to do? Or am I going too far? Does anyone think I'd be better with a satnav instead?

Instasista · 03/04/2017 16:36

You can use your phone as a sat nav. You just need to set it before you start driving

TheProblemOfSusan · 03/04/2017 16:48

That's reassuring Instasista, thanks - that's what I've been doing when I'm on my own. After watching that video above I was worried I wasn't doing enough but it's exactly the same as using a satnav in the sense that its in a holder and I don't touch it when driving. And I need something, physical maps would be even more distracting for me whereas now I set it and glance down or more likely she just tells me where to go.

A guy nearly took me out today who was on his phone. I signalled to put it down - he used his other hand to stick his middle finger up at me. So no hands on the wheel. Dick.

BillyButtfuck · 03/04/2017 17:37

I had someone right up my arse at the weekend, no safe stopping distance between us, maybe half a car length. I felt so uneasy that I pulled over to let them pass and she was fucking Facetiming or taking a video of herself Angry

BlueNeighbourhood1 · 03/04/2017 18:06

Well the guys at the company did take it seriously, emailed me twice to say they're looking into it and said it'd be dealt with by their internal disciplinary procedure.

It's about time someone was enforcing the rules!

user1471 Shock That's unbelievable!
