'Hi X. Thank you for having DS1 tonight (sleepover). Have a lovely holiday and look forward to hearing all about it when you get home.'

I'm really not very good at text etiquette I tend to text as I would speak e.g.

Hi X. Would be lovely to see you, fancy a coffee at Y cafe next Tues or Wed? Hope everyone including your cat, neighbour, best friend..... (you get the picture) are well. Xx

Whereas what I often get from people is

'Coffee, Cafe Y 3pm Tues?'

Which if I'm honest I find a bit rude Blush

Very happy to be told that I am being totally old fashioned unreasonable Grin

A brief 'you're welcome' and 'thank you' is polite and all that's needed here, and now, not in one or two weeks when it would sound out of place. Hearing about the holiday is obviously a conversation for after their return in a couple of weeks.

You are not being unreasonable.

People would reply to a thank you text with "Thanks"? That's not intuitive is it?

Actually going deeper the whole exchange is breaking etiquette isn't it? In fact if your child has been on a sleep over you thank in person at pick up. If the child is old enough to have got themselves home they should have thanked in person.

The first text is superfluous, even before wanting to be thanked for thanking.

The only reason to text is to make arrangements for the obligatory reciprocal sleep over - "Thanks again for having DD to sleep over, how about the Saturday after you get back from your holiday (insert date) for DD's friend to come and stay here? Let me know whether that suits!"
