To think cheese is a staple food?

Lulabell1979 · 01/04/2017 20:01

Just trying to figure out what on earth to have for tea. I realise nearly every item in my fridge and freezer (that I want to eat right now) is cheese based.

  • cheese nacho Mexican things
  • cheese pizza
  • cheese quiche
-cheesey potatoes
  • cheese garlic bread
-cheese and garlic dip -cheddar Followed by...-cheesecake!!!

Am supposed to be starting diet on mon. Surely the reasonable thing is to eat them and get them gone right?? Am I alone in my cheese based fridge?

There's no cheese at all in my house - it's banned due to my allergy.

Definitely not a staple food!

puglife15 · 01/04/2017 23:28

Your diet sounds quite heavy on processed food if it's all stuff that already has cheese on or in. The only cheese we have in our house is by itself.

I've not eaten cheese or any other dairy for about a year and honestly you get used to it. Plus I was the thinnest I've been in two decades without even trying.

chastenedButStillSmiling · 01/04/2017 23:32

It's in the bible, so it must be true

"Blessed are the Cheesemakers, for they shall inherit the earth"

before someone tedious corrects me, I know I'm actually quoting Monty Python!

TomaytoTomahto · 01/04/2017 23:35

I'm not the biggest fan of cheese TBH.

ScarletSienna · 01/04/2017 23:35

Cheese made from animal milk is vile so YABU. Avocados and chickpeas however...they're a staple food!

LaContessaDiPlump · 01/04/2017 23:37

Used to love it, now vegan. By a gradual process of attrition DH and DC don't eat it any more either.

So no, I wouldn't consider it a staple!

LovelyBath77 · 02/04/2017 06:55

Since doing LCHF my cholesterol also increased but the GP rang to say it was great, the HDL is over half the total. it is not the cholesterol level but the ratio of some parts which matters. Not so much need to worry about cholesterol as people think. A lot of it is statin companies etc and companies trying to get us to think like that.

skerrywind · 02/04/2017 07:02

We rarely eat cheese. Kids have never drunk milk or eaten dairy, No yogurt or butter, they hate the stuff.

Eatingcheeseontoast · 02/04/2017 07:19

I love cheese, I always have cheese in, have indoctrinated my formerly cheese hating Dh into the joy of cheese.

It's just so useful for making everything more tasty.

Lulabell1979 · 02/04/2017 08:02

@LovelyBath77 what is LCHF? Love cheese hate fruit?!

Avocado and chickpeas?Hmm. Whatever floats your boat. I usually have 3-4 different cheeses in my fridge at any given time. Yum.

SwimmingMom · 02/04/2017 08:47

Low carb, High fat. Love cheese here...send them over OP!

ellencherry · 02/04/2017 10:51

Yabu

Everything on that list sounds disgusting.
Cheese is basically a mixture of pus and fat. Have you seen the state of udders wired up to milking machines? They are rubbed raw and infected. The machines are milking milk and pus in equal amounts. Boak.

Neverm1nd · 02/04/2017 14:20

Thanks for that Ellen....just eating the last mouthful of poppy bread with butter and cheshire cheese on when I read it....

TabascoToastie · 02/04/2017 14:28

There have been studies showing people are healthier who eat cheese.
I have a sneaking suspicion these studies may have been sponsored by Cathedral City, but I also do not care and will happily accept them!

My new favourite lunch is crusty tiger loaf doorsteps, slathered in butter with generous slices of Jarlsberg on top
YABU to post this when I have neither tiger loaf nor Jarlsberg in the house!

haveacupoftea · 02/04/2017 15:26

Mm I want cheese now. I have halloumi in the fridge, would it be wrong to just have fried halloumi for dinner??

sunnytoday · 03/04/2017 10:59

What would life be without cheese hey...

MusicToMyEars800 · 03/04/2017 10:59

Serialweightwatcher · 03/04/2017 11:27

Cheese makes everything better ...... especially melty cheese Grin

1AnnoyingOrange · 03/04/2017 14:19

Cheese is a staple in our house.
It is lovely as a snack, and also makes many dishes a bit nicer.

Stilton on buttery toast. MMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmm

SherbrookeFosterer · 03/04/2017 19:02

FWIW IMO cheese is just a condiment.

I always have tins of pulses which I fry with garlic and onions and then grate something on top.

It's a quick, cheap and nutritious meal and kids love it.

Ledehe · 04/04/2017 10:46

I love cheese.

I don't trust people who don't like cheese. It's delicious. It goes with EVERYTHING! Why don't they like it? Something sinister going on there.

tabbymog · 04/04/2017 12:18

I luuuuuuurvvvvvve cheese but it doesn't luuuuuuurvvvvvve me back, it gives me migraines.

Sometimes I just can't resist a nibble of lovely Parmesan with those little salty, crunchy bits, slowly savoured then reluctantly put the block back in the fridge.

Soft cheese is just a very large hammer waiting to sock me in the side of the head so a definite no-no.

I have friends living on a farm in Emilia-Romagna, near Bologna. They rent out land to farmers who pay part of the rent in Parma hams and Parmesan cheese, 24-month matured gorgeous Parmesan cheeses... I only have to walk past the stone underground store where they're kept to start salivating!

Inspired!

Cheese pacifies the acids in the mouth and helps stop tooth decay - so cheese before bed is fine.
