Can I buy a tv and an indoor aerial?
Are there other options like freeview?
My wifi is through my phone and is too slow to even show youtube videos half the time.

Sorry for possibly the stupidest question of all time, but back in the 60's you could watch a blooming tv without the internet so why now do I apparently need broadband?

I have an indoor ariel and free view, it's definitely possible without an outdoor one!

With the round hole, you can buy an aerial cable that plugs into that and into a similar socket in the back of your TV. Should get one fairly cheaply.

I'm in fairly central London so not sure whether that affects the quality of the signal either (there are about 40 flats in a tiny property) and obviously about 50 houses and other flat blocks on this street alone!

Don't ask me when it became so bloody complicated. Rather annoying. Since when do you need broadband to watch the tv!? Angry

If you have a car, you could look on Gumtree/Freecycle to see if anyone has an old TV. It's the sort of thing that rarely breaks but people like to upgrade.

myoriginal3 · 01/04/2017 16:47

Physics was never my strong point lol so having to compute aerials and broadband is making my head spin.

The round hole in the wall is where you insert the aerial cable. You can buy them in Asda. Plug other end into tv and you'll have freeview (assuming your tv has freeview or you have a box)

Don't have a car no but heading to Curry's to display my ignorance as we speak.

Does it matter if the round hole is analogue? Is there a [baffled] emoji?

If you have an aerial socket, there's probably an external aerial on the property - you just need a cable from the tv to the socket, very cheap to buy

God I hate talking about things that I do not understand.

As stated upthread, you don't.

DuPainDuVinDuBoursin · 01/04/2017 17:07

TV with a dvd player and just watch cheap dvds from ebay knock offs or buy box sets from the FB selling pages.

BendingSpoons · 01/04/2017 17:08

Ask them for a basic TV. It's only the extra features that need internet. Also get an aerial cable (think you will need a male to male one, male refers to the shape/size of the circle.on each end). The cable will be £10ish for a basic one. Then you can plug that into the TV and the aerial socket. Don't worry about the type of aerial, you don't need a special digital aerial, and it has been digital only for a while now, so presumably your building aerial is fine. Good luck!

MyPerfectCousin · 01/04/2017 17:18

You don't need broadband to have a TV Confused

myoriginal3 · 01/04/2017 17:20

This is a 70's building so the dude recommended a clip on? aerial. In any event, it appears I will have a tv tonight! Have to go to another store to collect tv as wasn't in stock at the store I went to.

Thank you all so much for your help. I'll update if I see bbc come on. Grin
