To ask how many toys your kids have

I have four kids aged 1-8. It feels as though our place is overflowing with toys and clothes. I think that the children don't play with their lego/playmobil etc as the amount is overwhelming, and that they would be better off with half of the amount that they have.

We live in a 3 bedroomed apartment, so space is an issue.

Any decluttering also has to be done in secret as DH, and all four grandparents (who buy most of the kids things) all get quite upset when they see me carting stuff off to charity shops. My inlaws, for example, still have DH's childhood toys in their attic, and trying to give them to us!

(I do also hide/phase out lots of things and use them in the shoebox appeal at Christmas time, for example, but again, that is a secret).

Please tell me how you all do it!

Way too much. I'm a bit of a hoarder, thankfully DH is a bit of a minimalist, so he helps.

We've got all the gifts they've been given, plus tons of stuff my mum saved from our childhood, plus a lot from older cousins, plus a lot from random other friends. I've done many trips to charity shops and still have too much.

Well my eldest is 13 (yrs!) so 4dcs later we have accumulated a ridiculous amount of toys. No way could I recount them here. A combination of numerous birthday and Christmas presents and nct/charity shop finds. I've recently had a huge sort out and as pp's have said it helps to categorise. We have separate boxes of puzzles, duplo, lego, megabloks, trainset, hotwheels, farm animals, wooden blocks/beads, craft stuff, construction toys etc....and some bigger items like kitchen, garage, firestation. Believe it or not that's after I've cleared out Blush However ds2 (3yrs) plays soooo nicely I really don't mind.

DS has far too many so watching this for ideas

Too much I suspect, DS is 2 & 1/2, we have

-giant box of Happyland sets and figures

  • box of playmobil and box of duplo
  • peppa pig playsets/houses and figures
  • Disney and toy story figures plus mr potato head
  • paw patrol pups & cars plus paw Patroller, Air Patroller and lookout tower
  • lots of craft things and books
  • one toybox of random toys
  • toy garage and cars
  • shopping trolley, til and toy food (we play shops!)

I rotate it all so he doesn't get bored but he plays with the paw patrol bits everyday without fail

At MIL's he has toot toot's and a wooden kitchen

Oh good lord, that looks so bad written down like that BlushBlushBlushBlush
