Because they haven't. I work in the public sector and My salary is now shit. For the stress I am under and the responsibilities I have my salary has become grossly devalued due to the NMW to the point I'm seriously considering jacking my job in and going to work in my local garden centre where I would probably enjoy myself more.

Are you really saying that the only reason a neurosurgeon becomes a neurosurgeon is to earn more money, softkitty2? That, if not for the pay difference they would all be happily working in shops? Really???

Nothing to do with finding it more mentally rewarding, interesting, stimulating? None of the I'd like to help people thing? None of that? Just a load of I'll get paid shedloads and have a brilliant car and lots of holidays.

Somehow I doubt it.

Totally agree BillSykesDog

jux no that's not what i'm saying but I highlighted just one of the many reasons why I think people should be paid for the job they do.. As the discussion is about money/pay as per OP's thread.

As much as people say they love what they do and there is a feeling of fulfilment, caring, pride, satisfaction etc etc..

It would be great if people can go to the bank and ask for a loan or a mortgage and use 'job satisfaction' as collateral.. Sadly that's not the case.

I'm being a realist.

Leave it out with the public sector comments. My role is double the salary, final sal pension, and with half the responsibilities in the public sector (am an analyst with a sizeable salary already). I have been head hunted a dozen times by government organisations. Even bin men and PA scan earn over 30k and keep final sal pensions if they work in the public sector. Private sector workers nearly all have contributory pensions - I need to contribute 7% of my salary to have any hope of an income when I'm older.

some people on NMW wont be better off anyway single person no dependent children working part time hours , because if they recieve say housing benefit any pay rise they get will be taken off their housing benefit so they wont actually be one single penny better off

museumum · 31/03/2017 18:18

It's got to be a good thing though that nmw goes up and less benefits are required to bring the wages to an amount livable on.
