To think news night should stop giving so much attention to lily Allen

You'd think she was part of the shadow cabinet the amount of times she gets mentioned. She just shock jock from a privileged background, not a politician!

I don't care how privileged she is and hate how being "privileged" is seen as a negative thing to be held against someone. But that doesn't change the fact she's fucking irritating.

I don't think anyone is hating someone for being provided, just disliking how much attention she gets for it. I do hate people who pretend that privilege wasn't anything to do with how they got ahead in life, as if uploading a few tracks to MySpace and luck got her where she is.

It's not about whether bookers/editors think she's the second political coming, it's down to website traffic and viewing figures.

The DM give Lily Allen column inches because she sends their readership into a clickbait frenzy even without opening her mouth - rich, luvvie parents, privately educated, leftwing politics, mother of two small children, stalled pop career, fluctuating 'bikini body', failed marriage, rumours of drug use/infidelity/Godknowswhat. On top of that, she loves dispensing soundbites about hot button topics like immigration and Brexit. Unduly cynical, maybe, but while Newsnight might book Lily Allen because she's more colourful than the usual political talking heads, the DM's interest in her feels unpleasantly reminiscent of their unhealthy obsession with Peaches Geldof.

I think it's perhaps prejudice that can see different motives for Newsnight and Daily Mail.

brexitstolemyfuture, if this isn't about her privilege, what is it about, exactly? You seem to disagree with her being given a platform, but for no specific reason than her background. If you disagree with her opinions, fair enough, but you can't bemoan the fact that famous people have an opinion on everyday matters and use their 'privilege' and links to the media to air them.

As for her music career (which I still fail to see has any reason to be talked so negatively about), she was a noted talent with music before she became famous. When she did, she brought her own style to the industry and is very outspoken about women being used purely as a 'sex symbol' in music. Even if you don't enjoy her music, at least she's not the usual boring love song, or over-sexualised type of pop star so often cloned out these days. Saying she was just 'lucky' is actually very degrading, however she came into the music industry, she evidently worked hard at doing her own thing, keeping her own voice. How many young women in the same industry have just been broken into just plastic copycats? I think she deserves far more respect as a person than you're giving her.

EdmundCleverClogs - i think you are missing my whole point. I wasnt saying she was lucky, quite the opposite. Her music is all written and produced, by the excellent, Greg Kurstin. It wasn't luck that got her to have songs written and produced by someone so good. It wasn't luck that she got signed to a major label.

I disagree with her given a respected platform as she's out of her depth and they could get far more interesting and knowledgeable people.
