Why do people sit in car park with their engines running

Like the person next to me right now.

It's not cold. We are waiting 5 mins to pink up DC from gym.

It's a waste of petrol and pumping out fumes into the air for no apparent reason

I have a remote starter on my car, it works up to 1/4 mile away. I regularly start it 10 mins before I go out on a cold day to let it warm up, or on a hot day to cool down.

10 minutes of idling is a dreadfully selfish thing to do, you do realise that? Just put a coat on ffs.

In the winter here it's -20. You have to warm your cars engine. The oil in the engine is like treacle.

On colder days diesel starts to freeze,

It's common to see a row of empty parked cars at the supermarket running.

Besides I don't have any neighbors

That's what I thought lazyafternoon, Mine all works on ignition, I don't get why people do it.

In a car with push button start then yes you do have to run the engine to listen to the radio, etc. At least, in our push-button car.

In the other car which uses a key you just turn the ignition one stop and everything except the engine keeps running.
