We have one bathroom upstairs. It is used by the whole family so I have a basket with the kids items in it (baby wipes, nappy bags etc) in a little basket so I can grab them easily when needed.
Do insists on 'hiding' these in the bedroom every single weekday incase anyone 'pops over' as they might see them. Hmm

It's a family bathroom! It's nothing dirty or used , all clean stuff in a basket!

AIBU to be annoyed by this? This is every single day and most evenings I have to hunt around for the basket and it's not there when I need it.

Who does he think is going to pop in? He knows the Queen poos as well doesn't he (and probably uses wet wipes after Phil has been in there too) 😄

SomethingBorrowed · 30/03/2017 20:14

It might need some planning but this is what I would do: wait until DH is home and your DC has a big poo, go to the bathroom to change him, smear some poo around, call him screaming, it's an emergency, there is poo everywhere, where are the wipes??! Then let him clean the mess as it was all the consequence of him moving the basket when you asked him not to.
If you feel like it you could have a piece of his clothing lying around when the "accident" happens, and unfortunately it was the only thing you could grab to limit the damage...

YABU. I am the hider of things in our house. Not for hypothetical visitors, just because I don't like things. Any things. Any where. I'm just weird like that. I have tried to watch the sitcom Outnumbered many times but the state of their house makes me feel on edge.

I do think he should return the hidden items though at a certain time each day. Or at least put them in the same place so you can find them when they're hidden.

He's not a very tidy person!

Does your dh often visit other people's houses? Is there any chance his idea of what a house should look like is entirely based on show homes and the bathroom section of Homebase? You need to do something about this or he might start insisting one of those crocheted loo roll cover dolls.

IndianaMoleWoman · 30/03/2017 20:22

He's not a very tidy person

In that case I retract my first reply. YANBU.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 30/03/2017 20:32

I read an article a while back about poo particles floating around the bathroom after flushing which may be why some people feel the need to not have toothbrushes out, it did say the simplest remedy was to close the toilet lid before flushing though.

tigermoll · 30/03/2017 20:37

Don't tell you husband, but I keep a roll of paper by the lavatory so people can wipe their anus if they want to. Disgusting Grin

ShowMePotatoSalad · 30/03/2017 20:38

Anus 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

ScarlettFreestone · 30/03/2017 20:45

I'm really tidy and like the house to look neat but when my twins were babies I had a wicker basket in the living room with nappies, wipes, spare clothes, muslins, a changing mat etc.

Your DP would have been horrified. Grin

Everyone else who popped round (including my very proper Mum) thought it was much more practical than carrying two babies upstairs 8 times a day to change nappies.

highinthesky · 30/03/2017 20:45

PotatoSalad why else would someone be ashamed of baby changing kit? Perspective changes rapidly once you've actually wiped a baby's bum.

Leeds2 · 30/03/2017 20:49

How many visitors do you get who use your bathroom?

wonkylegs · 30/03/2017 20:53

We have 3 bathrooms and I still have a bag of nappy changing stuff & a changing mat under the sofa in the living room... It's so useful.
Of course he's being daft & even my DH thinks he's ridiculous and he hardly ever weighs in on MN posts.

Latenightreader · 30/03/2017 20:57

I think the obvious solution is to crochet (or commission) a gigantic loo roll style doll to cover the changing basket. Huge and hideous but hides the wet wipes from scandalised eyes...

ElisavetaFartsonira · 30/03/2017 21:05

YABU to describe your irritation as irrational. It's totally rational.

ReginaGeorgeinSheepsClothing · 30/03/2017 21:15

Is your DH ex-forces?? Mine does this too!! To extent it was like going to the bathroom with your wash kit as he would keep taking out shampoo etc and toothbrushes as they were 'clutter'!! 😬😬
