To think that sinks in public toilets are for washing hands only

Just seen a woman washing her feet in the sink in a public toilet.

AIBU to think this is a bit grim and people should only use them for hand washing.

She didn't appear to have any socks with her and was wearing some fairly grubby looking ballet flats.

Hand sanitiser does not kill germs

hooliodancer · 30/03/2017 16:46

Ha! I did this at Heathrow airport the other day. Security had just made me take off my flat shoes and walk barefoot. My feet were covered in dirt and bits of fluff etc and I just had to wash them.

I had chosen my shoes deliberately to be perfectly flat so I wouldn't have to take them off. They had no foot covers because these are dangerous apparently!!!

I have to say I was royally pissed off, and muttering darkly as I rinsed my feet.

OlennasWimple · 30/03/2017 16:48

Provided that they swish round the sink to leave it clean for the next person, meh

MrsJayy · 30/03/2017 16:49

Always wear socks in airports im undr 5ft not sure my legs would reach a sink Grin

PickAChew · 30/03/2017 16:52

Little frog, you do realise that hand sanitizer doesn't actually wash anything off, so if you got pee, poo or any other substance on your hands, it's still there?

NotReallyMeToday · 30/03/2017 16:54

I remember I once washed my hair in a public toilet using the soap dispenser soap instead of shampoo, at a point in my life when I was between flats I had a misspent adolescence. Total godsend having them there. The worst bit of not having a proper home is the total inability to have control over your own washing habits.

CaseyAtTheBat · 30/03/2017 16:59

Still waiting.

Nousernameforme · 30/03/2017 17:01

So if hand sanitiser doesn't kill germs why do doctors and nurses use it between patients and why is it in those dispensers on wards etc

HeirOfNothingInParticular · 30/03/2017 17:05

There's a woman who goes to my gym who spends absolutely ages rinsing her knickers in the sink. I presume they are what she has worn to workout in as whilst this is doing this she wears a sheet tied on one shoulder like a toga, but it gapes and she is naked underneath. Don't have a problem particularly, but she is very noticeable as she does it every time she is in there, and it goes on for so long.

starsorwater · 30/03/2017 17:07

Don't be silly.

Washing is good. Clean feet are good. In an ideal world there would be warm water and soap and free towels for anyone who needed them, available like public loos.

WanderingTrolley1 · 30/03/2017 17:08

That is foul, Heir.

limitedperiodonly · 30/03/2017 17:08

My SIL had a terrible shit explosion while out. My mum cleaned her up at the sink in a public loo, cleaned everything and then told a cleaner what had happened and that there were shitty paper towels in the bin.

Like Casey and MrsJayy, what were they supposed to do?

Ericaequites · 30/03/2017 17:09

There are signs in the Cranston public library that the sinks are only for washing face anfd hands, not for washing feet, hair, or naughty bits. There is a large population of homeless nearby.

Janey50 · 30/03/2017 17:12

I would admire the flexibility of someone able to get their feet into a sink in a public toilet! Seriously though, I admit that I have soaped and rinsed the handle of my walking stick in a public loo sink, when it fell over and landed in a puddle of what was probably wee. Sorry but I didn't fancy clutching it in my hand for the next couple of hours with that on it!

limitedperiodonly · 30/03/2017 17:12

I said I handwashed delicate underwear and tights in the kitchen sink on one of these threads.

The horror.

CaseyAtTheBat · 30/03/2017 17:17

Nobody can tell me?

That's because there is no reason at all.

I am so glad I am not inside the brains of some of these illogical MN'ers, I don't know how they get through the day managing on instinct without any rational thought.

MrsJayy · 30/03/2017 17:25

Hand sanitisser in hospitals is stronger than stuff you buy from otc it also doesnt promote good handwashing practises

Houseonthestrand · 30/03/2017 17:27

There are notices at the hospital maternity department I work in asking women not to wash their feet in the hand basins, they are small and the weight of feet in them has caused them to come away from the wall.

Also the floor becomes covered in water, then people walk in it with their shoes and muddy the water which then gets walked around the dept.

Sirzy · 30/03/2017 17:28

Hand sanitisers in hospitals are also as well as proper washing not instead of.

CaseyAtTheBat · 30/03/2017 17:29

Arf at the person giving out about feet when they don't even wash their hands, instead covering the grime with hand sanitiser, as if that does the job!

Houseonthestrand · 30/03/2017 17:32

I should add that I don't see the problem with washing feet in larger more robust basins. People should try and clear up water on the floor where possible.

littlefrog3 · 30/03/2017 17:32

PMSL at the people who think/claim hand sanitizer doesn't kill germs.

You just couldn't make up some of the shit you see on here sometimes. Grin

It's like people will say anything to try and prove you 'wrong.' Even if it's 100% bollocks. Wink

CaseyAtTheBat · 30/03/2017 17:34

Little frog, do you think the only reason to wash your hands is to get rid of germs? What about the actual DIRT?

I note you have no answer to my question earlier?Funny that. Perhaps you should stop being so fecking rude then?

littlefrog3 · 30/03/2017 17:35

Oh get a grip FFS.

CaseyAtTheBat · 30/03/2017 17:38

I'm not the one ranting about sweaty penises, petal, while covering the shit on your hands with hand sanitiser. I don't think I'm the one who needs a grip as well as a good wash.
