To think the end is nigh for Facebook?

Am I the only one to get irritated by the self congratulating posts of offspring doing amazing things, photos of saying goodbye to old car and hello my new Range Rover, or 'feeling content' headed photos of posters on holiday, or look at me looking beautiful and pouting photos by 40yr old mums? Perhaps I am miserable, but feeling a bit over it and feel, pressured to like such posts in case seen to not liking...oh the dilemma!!

Also, FB only shows you some content - you don't see everything that everyone on your friends list shares. So if you unfollow someone and they get annoyed that you've not liked something, you just have to say that FB didn't show you that post.

You can also say show more/less of a specific person, without unfriending or unfollowing entirely.

Giddyaunt18 · 30/03/2017 14:12

I do seriously laugh at some grown women's profile pics. A teen posing and pouting is one thing but parents? Enough already!!

sonyaya · 30/03/2017 14:15

I love FB, but only for my friends sharing about their lives. I love to see pics of their holidays, children etc. What I hate is people sharing memes which I saw 4 days ago on Twitter.

Also half my photos from the about five years ago are only backed up on there Blush

Apairofsparklingeyes · 30/03/2017 14:24

I enjoy Facebook. My page is full of cat pictures, animal videos, comedy clips and my real friends. I don't get out much due to my disability and it's a brilliant way to feel less isolated and to cheer myself up.

nightswimming1 · 30/03/2017 14:24

"Pouting photos by 40 year-old mums"? Hmm

JHMJHM · 30/03/2017 14:27

Yes, definitely used as a resource too, as is twitter for local stuff. I have never been on facebook and I gave up my personal twitter account a few months ago. Still got my work one which I have to run as part of my role.

I was a MASSIVE twitter user but a few months on...don't miss it at all.

2rebecca · 30/03/2017 14:32

I use it to chat to my friends and family and also various sporting/ hobby/ political groups I'm in have facebook pages where we keep in touch and arrange stuff.
Agree people don't put miserable/ boring stuff on there usually.
I suspect people who moan about stuff people put on facebook have far more "friends" than I have. Be more discerning or hide the feed from people who irritate you.

2rebecca · 30/03/2017 14:36

Agree with choosing recent posts. It annoys me that facebook keeps changing it to most popular. Don't see why they feel that's important enough to not give me control of it.

stoopido · 30/03/2017 14:41

I have been on facebook for nearly 10 years now and I think most people have realised not to put their business on there! I see far fewer photos and statuses nowadays but far more advertisement.

The fact that it's full of 30 & 40 somethings doesn't mean it's at an end - those people could happily continue to use it for 30+ years.

Agree with the PP who said you get the FB feed you deserve! I don't have any pouting 40-something Mums on mine. But then I'm not friends with that sort of person in real life, so don't have friends on FB with them. I have started editing what I post a lot since my parents joined and half the Mums in DC1's class sent me friend requests...

olderthanyouthink · 30/03/2017 19:25

JHM I am officially prematurely middle aged, my twitter it just for ranting. (How old is middle aged btw?)

supersop yeah, that's what I meant about if your honest about life it won't go down well.

ShelaghTurner · 30/03/2017 19:43

'You get the Facebook you deserve' is one of the best things I've read on here. If your FB is full of wanky posts then you have wanky friends. It's that simple.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 30/03/2017 19:53

I have one word for you

UNfollow

Then you never see their shit again - unless you are a masochist and look them up

AgainPlease · 30/03/2017 22:37

I deleted Facebook a year ago. I feel so liberated!!

DingDongtheWitchIsDangDiddlyDe · 30/03/2017 22:49

Yabu, you're not using it properly. Like most people.

Did you mean to sound as if because you can't use FB properly, its over as a useful platform for the other 1 billion plus people who use it?

TheWitTank · 30/03/2017 22:56

I also love 'you get the facebook you deserve'. Spot on.
I enjoy it because I have people I like and I'm on groups I find interesting. Its really very simple. If you have a feed full of shit you hate or people you can't stand then delete said shit and people.

2rebecca · 30/03/2017 23:00

I have never felt pressure to like posts. I like posts that resound with me that I happen to see. If people don't like my posts I presume they are either too busy to see it or not that fussed about what I posted, both of which are OK. Some people get too hung up about the like feature

Bunnyfuller · 30/03/2017 23:28

FB deleted a year ago and feel much better for it. Suffering from depression and anxiety, the 'my wonderful life/family/outings you weren't invited to' definitely made me feel worse.

pollymere · 31/03/2017 17:45

I think you need to find new friends. A couple of mine are like that but the majority are proper sharers of the good, the bad and the ugly!

SherbrookeFosterer · 31/03/2017 17:47

It's all the pictures of pouting that gets my goat on facebook - even grown men are doing it!

What are they thinking??

floraeasy · 31/03/2017 17:53

It's all the pictures of pouting that gets my goat on facebook

What's your goat doing pouting all over FB?

Wink
DagenhamRoundhouse · 31/03/2017 17:58

Nobody's stopping you closing your account. I've never had a FB account as it seems to cause more trouble than it's worth.

CrieffBobsledTeam · 31/03/2017 17:59

Violet I agree about the "stream of consciousness" type posts, I enjoyed them too and felt I was relating to what people were really like through reading/interacting with them. I also used to post like that. Then there were several articles written and circulated quite widely along the lines of "5 kinds of Facebook post nobody wants to see" which included that kind of post. These articles were shared by friends and reading them made me think perhaps I was in a minority enjoying that kind of post so started to think twice about what I shared. As you say this has resulted in my posting less and as I'm reading a lot more posts that seem quite "crafted" these days I wonder whether others have responded similarly.
