This is now the 4th time I've had to wait in for someone who is apparently 'desperate' to pick up my old keyboard only for them not to show up.

I am SOOOOOOOOO fed up with these people! I get inundated with requests for something and then no-one bothers to come for it! Why reply if you don't want it?

To add insult to injury, despite my stating it hasn't been used in the entire 5 years it's been in my possession (it's really not my thing, I'm resolutely unmusical, it was given to me by my Dad, who does random things like that..) I get people emailing me saying

"Do you play it often? Is it compatible with a pc? Can you post it?" and today -

"I want you to check it works before I come to collect it" - excuse me? Did I even say you could have it? Given that the dratted thing works on batteries, I am buggered if I'm going to schlep out and buy batteries purely to satisfy some ill-mannered git who can't even say please!

Aaaaand breathe....

Totally know what you mean about the rudeness of some people using freecycle.

I put a couple of laundry baskets on freecycle and someone emailed me and asked for pictures? eh? why would I take the time to take and upload pictures of something I am giving away?

they didnt say please or thank you just "re laundry baskets, can you send pics?"

Lovecat · 07/03/2007 20:39

alittlebitshy - compared with some of the messages I've had off freecyclers, you're positively Miss Manners!

The bedside tables are from Ikea - thick yellowy pine in a very basic design. We've had them 17 years... but we've just got fitted wardrobes and they're too wide to go either side of the bed and be able to open the wardrobe door, so I've had to get some slimline new ones (and put them together myself today - cue smug smiley..).

Anyway, they have a single drawer at the top and open shelf space beneath. They stand about 18ins high, 12ins deep and 18ins wide (but this is my dodgy 'oh that looks about right' measuring so don't take it as gospel!).

They are very solid, all pine except for the drawer bottoms which are very thick board. The top of one of them is a bit tea-stained despite my best efforts at polishing them up, but they are otherwise in good nick.

Let me know...

I don't have a digital camera (another reason I don't do ebay!) but this is the nearest I can find to what they look like (obviously Ikea UK don't do it anymore!):

here

Only mine are even more basic than that - there's no hole in the drawerfront, it's just solid pine. Mine don't have backs to them either.

Okay, as of 9am this morning there has been no response re. the screens, so massagemum, if you'd like them, email me on: lovecat66 at btinternet dot com and we can sort something out.

prettymum · 08/03/2007 12:16

i put some bikinis up on freecycle, the person kept confirming that they were very interesred but was a no show!! gggrrr

alittlebitshy · 08/03/2007 12:19

yes i do know you (ish)
am about to email you from my rl email address....

Eddas · 08/03/2007 15:16

After reading this thread yesterday i thought oo i'll sign up to freecycle to get rid of some stuff. So went along and posted an office chair.

Now is it me being sensitive that i was a little annoyed with one of the 3 replys which said,

'if it has a high back like this one', they then provided a link, 'i will be willing to have it'

If i was asking to have something for free i wouldn't say well ok i'll be willing to take it, bloomin cheek!!! It's free!

Needless to say i've offered it to someone else!

Lovecat · 08/03/2007 15:21

No, Eddas, you're not at all sensitive, this is exactly the sort of rudeness I'm complaining about in my OP!

I hope they turn up for you... I'm still waiting re. this wretched keyboard - how can 50 people reply, begging me for it, then when I go back to them, one by one by bleedin' one, each one lets me down or ignores me?? Aaaaaaargh!

I stopped using this and just donate to charity.

HomeStart is GREAT about taking our no longer needed but still in great shape baby gear, and we know it goes to some local folks who really need it.

expatinscotland · 08/03/2007 15:25

As for Ebay, NEVER again.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 08/03/2007 15:29

We don't do Freecycle anymore for similar reasons. It would be good for big items that are difficult to throw away (like demi-johns and stuff for wine-making, God yes, Dh went through that phase) but too much hassle. Gave a lot of baby equipment, that one went pretty well.

Eddas · 08/03/2007 15:34

Oh good, can't bare rudeness.

I'll see how i go with it, but may just go back to sending things to the charity shop.

Am trying to sell some things on ebay at the moment. Have been let down in the past by non payers and the bits ended up in the charity shop so we'll see!!!

I, well dd, has got loads of teddy bears and i want to send them somewhere that they will be needed. Not worth trying to sell them. Plus i'd like to give them to some children who need them. Any ideas? I don't know anything about homestart, would the bears be any use to them?

expatinscotland · 08/03/2007 15:40

I'd try HomeStart or if you have a SureStart programme in your area, Eddas.

A girl in the US started a charity that gives decent hold alls and a stuffed bear to children who have been removed from their home and placed in a foster home.

I don't know if there's any similar programme here in the UK.

The US also has quite a few women's refuge shelters who take things to help women and children fleeing violent homes.

I have also given things to churches and, as a work near a large mosque, to them - they make regular visits to a detention centre for refugees here in Scotland and take toys and goods for children to use. All are in excellent condition, just not of any use to us any more as our two grow.

Eddas · 08/03/2007 15:48

I'll investigate as there must be something nearby. They sound like the sorts of thing i mean. Just want to give to people who need things rather than throw them away or give them to a charity shop. I know charity shops need donations but they always seem to have a mass of teddy bears.

Actually, we must have surestart here as i'm sure hv gave me some books from there when dd had her hearing test. Right off to search the web!!

3andnomore · 08/03/2007 16:02

DH has used freecycle and was lucky to pick some Motorbike leathers etc...up that way!
But it must be a absolute pain if people don't show up when they said they would and are just rude
British Hearfoundation pick up stuff, if you got a big lot....always worth considering, I suppose!

Troutpout · 08/03/2007 16:06

no not unreasonable
they want the moon on a blardy stick..some people

SecondhandRose · 08/03/2007 16:27

I replied to an advert wanting a tent and they picked it up very quickly. Have got rid of quite a few bits on it and have something on there offered at the moment so we'll see if it goes.
