Neighbour cutting down our trees.

We bought our house three years ago, at the end of our garden we have a path to our allotment and next to my allotment is pigeon man he has 4 huge sheds full of them. He has offered to buy the allotment repeatable till I told him we would never sell it. We are turning it into a garden, play area and fruit orchard.

Last year we planted three fruit trees, he was saying we couldn't plant trees because his pigeons would go in them, I told him we would be planting the trees he started shouting and swearing at me in front of the DC (2,5 and 7 at the time)! So I changed the layout and planted two trees closer to his side (3 meters) because the play area was going to be that end so moved the orchard to his end.

We went down yesterday evening to mow it and trim the hedge. Fruit trees are fine but his been in and cut down three saplings

Where abouts are you planting the trees - in your garden or in the allotment?

Fab drawing by the way!

Brilliant diagram! If he cuts down trees that grow on your land then he has to give you the remains and provide you with a reason why he did it- or its theft! Miserable sod! Wanting to know lots more about poor car-accident- alien-seeing-neighbour tho Grin

taytopotato · 29/03/2017 11:42

Alien neighbour is an ALIEN pretending to be human. He eats pigeons for food

AwkwardSquad · 29/03/2017 11:42

Serious head on - have a chat with your local PCSO?

TheMaddHugger · 29/03/2017 11:44

sorry cant embed this

Crumbs1 · 29/03/2017 11:45

Do you live near Ambridge?

MoonfaceAndSilky · 29/03/2017 11:45

Maybe pigeon man knows about the aliens - he doesn't want you to plant trees because the aliens use your allotment for their landing pad and the trees would get in the way Hmm

TheMaddHugger · 29/03/2017 11:47

sorry folks. Aliens took my brain.

If a neighbour cut off my trees I'd be cutting off his balls and feeding them to his pigeons.

And that if I'm feeling nice about it.

Norland · 29/03/2017 11:56

Could you not invite some Ents to stay whilst the trees are growing up?

MakeJam · 29/03/2017 11:56

How big are the sheds and does BirdMan have planning permission? Wink

Happyandhungry · 29/03/2017 11:57

Do you not have fences/gate around your allotment? Its your land, if he came into your back garden and did it you'd be fuming. Its criminal damage and no different to him taking a dislike to your roof tiles and taking some off during the night (extreme scenario but you know what i mean!) I would get real cctv of some kind.

Mummyoflittledragon · 29/03/2017 11:57

Have you fenced your property in? I know it won't stop the pigeons going in. But it will stop him. He has no right to tell you what you do on your own property. Sounds like everyone would like this weirdo to find a house in the middle of the sea.

Didn't the vendors disclose any disputes with this man? He seems to be well known. His behaviour possibly should have been disclosed.

SapphireStrange · 29/03/2017 11:58

OP, voice recognition software might help you get your columns down if you're not so confident about writing.

I am actually intrigued as to why it would be a problem if some birds went and sat in some trees. But it doesn't sound as though you'd get a sensible answer from Pigeon Man.

MimsyFluff · 29/03/2017 11:59

Omg it will be a landing strip Shock

This is what we want and now youngest is 3 I can start knocking down sheds and make fencing and decking.

DD1 wants too be an astronaut so I've alien neighbour but sadly we only see him every few months bet his just watching the sky at night and seeps the day away. Good to know we are safe in our sleep Grin

I suppose my question would be what is permissible use of the allotments.

So...
Are you allowed to plant trees on there?
Is pigeon man allowed to have a coop on there?
Are you allowed to repurpose the area for activities other than plant growth?

Or is allotment basically a term used for a chunk of your garden that isn't attached to the rest of your land?

In our area allotments have fairly strict rules and in all probability both you and pigeon man would be in breach of them, including your plan to turn yours into a play area.

But if your allotments are basically gardens then pigeon man is stealing your trees so the fake or even real CCTV (you can pick up fairly cheap devices that stream to a mobile) would act as a deterrent or proof depending on what he does next. Just be careful to ensure only your allotment can be seen on the camera.

BTW pigeon keepers are precious about the environment they keep their birds in. Some of them cost thousands of pounds and are pampered beyond belief so can easily believe he thinks you are being utterly evil which may make him unreasonable to deal with.

Its all fenced but he can see over his garden fence but will be putting a tall screen in next weekend. The allotment fence that is his and mine is our job to fence so will be removing the hedge that's planted along it and replace it with those horrid ever greens that grow really fast. But that will take a while so needs planning for when DH is around to watch DC.

The owner had passed away, so no disputes were known plus we still would of bought we picked this house for the number of bedrooms, allotment its huge and was dirt cheap.

I have a feeling that the pigeons would choose to sit/ hide in the branches rather than go back into their shed! That is likely to be his objection.

OP, I'd look into what rules surround the allotments. All the ones we have round here are rented so I don't know what restrictions might apply to a owned one. It could be that pigeons, play areas or both are actually forbidden. Once you are sure of what you and he are allowed to do, you can plan further.

MimsyFluff · 29/03/2017 12:15

He will have removed a fencing panel to get in the allotment to high to jump over the hedge or fence.

Shall use NaiceBiscuits idea and tell him all about it.

MimsyFluff · 29/03/2017 12:16

The pigeons are in his garden and we can turn the allotment into a garden they are no restrictions on the deeds.
