It's for my 81 year old mother in law for a trip to Canada. Can anyone recommend cheaper options? Many thanks.

Expensive but not extortionate. It's based on actuarial risk, and the risk that if she is ill she will not be fit to fly back for a long time - and will run up hospital bills at North American rates - is high.

My 76 year old father has multiple medical conditions - just paid £350 for a two week European cruise, cheapest cover for Canada / USA was £1800 !!!!

These sites are good.

I use a company called All clear travel. It's expensive because I have a technically unstable and potentially life threatening condition (although am actually usually well) and husband has high BP. They've always been the cheapest quote which covers everything and are OK about paying out for claims.

When is she travelling? For single trip, the further in advance you take out the insurance, the dearer it is as although you're only covered to TRAVEL on the specified dates, you're also covered for £5000 plus cancellation cover. T
The risk of the older folk cancelling if they aren't travelling for 6 months is higher than a younger person

Also, I know this is fecking odd, as long as the Canada trip is under 40 odd days, get a quote for worldwide ANNUAL insurance. For some odd reason the risk is less

Thanks again. QOD She's travelling at the end of May - I'll look into annual insurance. Thanks for your advice Flowers
