AIBU to ask if you don't have an oven what do you use?

Our oven has broken. Again. We maintain and clean them properly so it's not that. This one has lasted just over a year and it's really annoying as it was working fine yesterday. So I know it's not a real AIBU but can I ask if you don't have a traditional oven, what do you have? There are 2 adults and a toddler if that makes a difference.

A friend got by with a hob microwave and a halogen for about 6 months. 2 adults and a toddler

Do have an oven here, but often use Remoska and Instant Pot to save energy and cooking times.

Neff oven for nearly 20 years, still fine and we use it several times a week. WIBU to suggest buying a better quality oven? Honestly, buying one that only lasts a year sounds like a false economy. At least buy one with a decent guarantee

I use my actifry as a mini fan oven. Quick, clean and easy.

gunnergirl · 27/03/2017 17:02

I use my halogen for most things hardly ever use oven

I have a hot point oven. The last one lasted 14 years. Prior to that I had a whirlpool that lasted 16 years.

Mines an under counter double oven. I didn't know that was a thing. I was a bit excited SmileGrin

Our oven broke a few years back and for two of those we just used a Remoska. It really is utterly fantastic. You can cook anything in it - the element is in the lid so you only use the heat that you need. It costs pennies to run. And has a lifetime guarantee.

We've even taken it on holiday with us. And even though I have a hob and oven now, I still use it over the oven [it is currently warming up left over curry from Saturday for tea].

I used the hob whilst we were minus an oven. Last time we were ovenless we also had a combi microwave and George Foreman grill. That made life much easier.

You can make all sorts in one of these. Even garlic bread. m.johnlewis.com/breville-vst071-duracermic-cafe-style-sandwich-press-stainless-steel/p/3079301

They promised a repair EZA but they took so long to do it that they ran out of time and had to provide me with a replacement. I got that on Christmas Eve!

thethoughtfox · 27/03/2017 18:04

My dear aunt has bought us one of those halogen over things. Haven't received it yet but they are very cheap, small ( smaller than a full over) but you can apparently do anything in them including roasts. Maybe check them out.

slow cooker
steamer
rice cooker
bread maker
microwave
toaster
sandwich maker

All in addition to an oven

BarbaraofSeville · 27/03/2017 18:24

If it's broken after a little more than a year then it should be repaired or replaced for free. Minimum legal guarantee is 2 years.

If the shop is not helpful try the manufacturer but look on moneysavingexpert, Which? or Trading Standards for details of your consumer rights.

EZA15 · 27/03/2017 18:32

Nair contrary to what you obviously think - we don't buy the cheapest and even if we did I'd still expect it to last more than a year
